REPUBLIC, Mich. (WLUC) - People gathered in Republic on Saturday afternoon to play a unique form of golf.
The Tennis Ball Golf Tournament was held in at the Northern Lights Campground. The participants swung golf clubs to hit tennis balls down a snow blown fairway.
Players paid a $20 donation to play in the tournament. A portion of the proceeds will benefit a family in need due to medical expenses. Tournament organizers are happy with how the community supports the cause.
“With Republic, it’s such a small town, it’s a small community, and everyone knows each other, and once you get to know everybody, it’s almost like a big family. You’re one huge family and you just want to support one another, be there for each other, and the truly helps out people who need it at the worst times they’re dealing with financially,” said Chelsea Anderson, Co-Chair of the Tennis Ball Golf Tournament.
The other half of the proceeds will go towards the Republic Fishing Derby fireworks in July.
