Five-star DT Gabe Brownlow-Dindy flips from Oklahoma to Texas A&M - ESPN

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

Texas A&M flipped five-star defensive tackle Gabe Brownlow-Dindy from Oklahoma on Monday, giving the Aggies three five-star football commitments in the class.

Brownlow-Dindy is the No. 4 recruit overall and had been committed to the Sooners since Oct. 12. He stayed committed when news broke that Lincoln Riley left to take the head coaching job at Southern California, but rumors swirled that he was looking around.

This is the fifth decommitment for Oklahoma since Riley left, along with ESPN 300 linebacker Kobie McKinzie, defensive lineman Derrick Moore, running back Raleek Brown and offensive lineman Demetrius Hunter.

Conversely, this is the sixth commitment the Aggies have had since the start of November, as Jimbo Fisher and his staff make a push for the No. 1 class with the early signing period only nine days away. The staff got a commitment from the No. 1 player overall in defensive tackle Walter Nolen on Nov. 6, as well as commitments from five-star wide receiver Evan Stewart, wide receiver Chris Marshall, running back Le'Veon Moss, offensive lineman Mark Nabou and now Brownlow-Dindy.

Prior to this commitment, Texas A&M was ranked No. 6 in the class rankings, but will likely move up and now have a total of 14 ESPN 300 commitments. Oklahoma is left with six ESPN 300 commitments in its class.

Five events to check out: So much Christmas everywhere - ThisisReno

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

We’re diving headlong into Christmas with a roundup of events that just might put the jingle in the jangle of even the most grinch-like of our readers. And for those who are firmly in the anti-Christmas camp, check out our event calendar for plenty of non-holiday events.

  1. Not sure if you’ve heard, but Reno’s Santa Crawl is kind of a big deal. Organizers are expecting even more revelers this year—some 12,000 people dressed as Santa, sexy Santa, elves and sexy elves. Mark the center square on your Santa Crawl bingo card if you catch sight of the rare sexy reindeer. It goes down Saturday night at venues throughout downtown.
  2. UNR’s DeLaMare Science and Engineering Library opens up Tuesday for a DIY Layered Holiday Ornaments workshop. Participants will choose designs to be cut on the library’s laser cutter, then decorate their ornament.
  3. For the holiday sophisticate, Artown continues its tradition of off-season performances with Pink Martini featuring founding vocalist China Forbes. The group performs Thursday at Grand Sierra’s theater.
  4. Roadkill and romance are on stage at Restless Artists Theatre Company with “Deer,” premiering on Friday. The grisly dark comedy, about a couple whose weekend getaway to the Poconos is crashed by a bloody and lifeless deer, might be the perfect intermission from relentless holiday cheer.
  5. Picture it, Sicily, 1922. Sorry, skip ahead. Picture it, Miami, 1985. Four friends celebrate the holidays with all the sass and cheesecake one can fit on stage. Join Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sofia for The Golden Girls: Holiday Extravaganza at Good Luck Macbeth.

BONUS: Even more Christmas theater

  • Those who love candy, candy corn, candy canes and syrup will want to get tickets to Elf the Musical on a three-day run at TheatreWorks of Northern Nevada.
  • The holiday classic A Christmas Carol is on stage at Brüka Theatre through Dec. 18. This version of Dickens’ novela is adapted for a three-person cast.
  • Mother Ginger, sugar plum fairies and dancing mice join Clara and the Prince for A.V.A. Ballet’s annual production of The Nutcracker. The performances are set to live music performed by the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra.

Top Five Roast Beef Sandwiches on the North Shore - nshoremag.com

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

Everyone knows the best roast beef sandwiches are found in New England. The classic version, called the “three-way” in local lingo, stuffs a soft roll with thin-sliced roast beef, then smothers it with American cheese, James River barbecue sauce, and mayonnaise. It is a beloved regional staple.

But with so many choices north of Boston, it can be hard to know which sandwiches are the best of the best. No problem: We’ve narrowed it down to five restaurants on the North Shore that will satisfy your craving for roast beef – and then some.

Kelly’s Roast Beef

Kelly’s Roast Beef takes pride in satisfying guests and serving up legendary roast beef sandwiches. The institution was founded in Revere in 1951 by Frank V. McCarthy and Raymond Carey. The pair started their business by slicing roast beef at a hot dog stand, creating what they say was the first iteration of the classic North Shore roast beef sandwich. It caught on and, 60 years later, they have locations in Saugus, Danvers, and Medford in addition to their spot on Revere Beach.

This popular joint has won numerous awards for their delectable food and has been mentioned on-screen by $40 a day with Rachel Ray on the Food Network, Saturday Night Live, and Good Will Hunting. To watch the action yourself, check out the live feed of the beachfront location.

Jamie’s Roast Beef

Jamie’s Roast Beef is a hidden gem in Peabody. The mastermind behind the superb roast beef sandwiches is Matthew Marquis, a Peabody high School graduate and a trained chef who decided to put his own foodie spin on the North Shore’s most classic sandwich. He thin slices beef that has been seasoned and roasted in-house to a perfect medium rare. In addition to the standard roast beef, Jamie’s menu includes such gourmet variations as the “Full Send,” which features piles of beef topped with truffle aioli, taleggio cheese, and pickled onions. Need a final push to get you heading to the shop? Check out these sandwich shots on Instagram.

The Modern Butcher

The Modern Butcher’s meat is sourced from within 150 miles of the Newburyport shop, and the owners personally visit the farms they work with to ensure animals are health and well-treated. The roast beef three-way is served only on Saturdays, so you’ll have to time your visit just right. If you wander in on another day, though, you really can’t miss with the overstuffed Italian, the oven-fried chicken with rotating sauces and toppings, or the Cuban with house-smoked ham. The shop’s social media is frequently updated, keeping customers updated with drool-worthy pics of the daily offerings.

Pomodori

One of the best roast beef sandwiches is found at this family-run business in Newburyport. Two years ago, the current owners took over for another popular roast beef shop and promised to honor the legacy of its predecessor, keeping the signature sandwich on the menu. They have, it seems, succeeded, receiving rave reviews for their roast beef. The owners also give back to the community, supporting local charities and giving to the Alzheimer’s Association, in honor of a family member who had the disease.

Niko’s Place Roast Beef & Seafood

This appealing, family-run restaurant was opened in Salisbury in 2005, and has been pleasing roast-beef-hungry diners ever since – one review even declares the roast beef the best on the entire planet. Stick with the three-way, or make it your own by choosing from an extensive list of available condiments: Some horseradish sauce might be good, or perhaps try the Swiss cheese  instead of American.

Five Stars in five-star Buccaneers win over Falcons - The Pewter Plank

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday did what world champions who want to repeat do. They went on the road and beat an inferior division opponent by double digits to put a stranglehold on the NFC South crown and keep alive their very real chances of a conference top seed. It was a five-star 30-17 triumph for the Bucs over the Atlanta Falcons

A five-star win is deserving of the five biggest reasons for the victory. Luckily for Tampa Bay, there were plenty of choices as they improved to 9-3 on the season.

One star goes to the biggest name in the game. Quarterback Tom Brady shredded the Falcons defense to the tune of 368 yards passing and four touchdowns. The only way the Falcons could reach the end zone after the first quarter was through the charity of a late second quarter Brady pick six that wound up only hurting his statistics.

A second star belongs to wide receiver Chris Godwin, who obviously enjoys playing in Atlanta. His previous yardage high was 184 in 2019 on the road against the Falcons. On Sunday, he caught 143 yards worth of passes on a team record and NFL season high 15 receptions.

Wide receiver Mike Evans put up seven catches for 99 yards and would normally be worthy of a star, but another pass catcher showed up big for the Bucs. Tight end Rob Gronkowski caught two touchdown passes, moving the combo of he and Brady to second all-time in regular season end zone hookups. That was half of his four catches for 58 yards on the day.

The last two stars are representative of the pressure the Bucs defensive line put on the Falcons Matt Ryan all day long.  One star each goes to Vita Vea and Ndamukong Suh, who both posted two sacks apiece and shut down Atlanta’s run game after it was effective early on. Tampa Bay had a total of 5 sacks on the day in the victory, which always helps against an offensive team like Atlanta.

Five Takeaways From the Buccaneers' Win Over the Falcons - Sports Illustrated

Accessories in Johannesburg: Five Looks - The New York Times

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

The population of South Africa’s largest city is diverse, and so are the ways that residents choose to adorn themselves.

JOHANNESBURG — This sprawling city is South Africa’s economic hub, attracting people from all over the country, the continent and beyond.

How its almost six million residents adorn themselves is equally varied, with some choosing to reflect their dreams while others strive to hold onto pieces of home or celebrate elements of this fast-changing metropolis.

Maria McCloy, for example, came to the city from Lesotho. A public relations agent turned fashion designer, she likes to wander the city’s streets, where she has encountered Tsonga, Zulu and Ndebele beaders and artisans from all over Africa who call the city home.

Their creations usually are reserved for weddings, thanksgivings or coming-of-age ceremonies, but Ms. McCloy, 45, began wearing them to red carpet events or parties. And — a collector since her peripatetic childhood that included London; Lagos, Nigeria; and Khartoum, Sudan — she has been adding them to her accessories collection, which is heavy with beads and brass, fabric and leather.

Cognizant that wearing a Ndebele initiation apron as a necklace could be seen as appropriation, Ms. McCloy said she works with craftspeople who know the culture and relies on their guidance.

Gulshan Khan for The New York Times

After all, in a globalized economy where China dominates Africa’s fabric trade, where brass and metal pieces are increasingly imported from India, and where local manufacturers struggle to survive, what is authentic in a city like Johannesburg?

Ms. McCloy said she hated the word “authentic.” There is no single definition of being African, she said, just as there is no single way residents should dress.

“It’s a stylish, evolving Pan-African, very rooted city,” Ms. McCloy said. “Despite what’s happened to people, apartheid and colonialism didn’t kill people’s self-love, creativity, sense of occasion and style.” Here are four more examples.

Gulshan Khan for The New York Times

Chartered accountant and radio broadcaster

In rural KwaZulu-Natal, where Khaya Sithole grew up, the traditional headband he wears — a umqhele — is unremarkable.

In Johannesburg, the goatskin band around his forehead elicits curiosity, delight or prejudice. “It already enables people to crystallize what your most likely identity is going to be,” said Mr. Sithole, 35.

He first wore a umqhele during a TV interview to hide the fact he needed a haircut. Much to his surprise, the audience seemed more interested in his accessory than his economic analysis so he said he now wears it into boardrooms and meetings to show that he can embrace his Zulu culture in a corporate space.

His most interesting responses, and insults, have come from other Black people, Mr. Sithole said, like the politician who dismissed him for wearing a “dead goat” on his head. While Black South Africans embrace traditional clothing and accessories at special occasions, in corporate or professional settings they seem to shy away from cultural symbols, Mr. Sithole said.

“Far too many young people that look like me have just been conditioned” to be uncomfortable in those kinds of situations, he said.

Gulshan Khan for The New York Times

Stylist and manager of Wizards Vintage, a vintage clothing store

In a city that seems to define itself by its future, Karin Orzol holds on to the past. “I am a very big collector, some call me an ec-lector,” said Ms. Orzol, 46. “Everything has meaning, I’m incredibly sentimental.”

It is a trait she inherited from her mother, who keeps what she described as “a cupboard full of memories” — like family keepsakes and childhood drawings — and now distributes them as gifts.

The antique mesh purse that Ms. Orzol cherishes carries more than a century of memories. Her great-grandmother carried the purse from England to South Africa in the second half of the 19th century. As years passed and the family moved around the country, the purse was passed from daughter to daughter.

Her mother gave her the purse when Ms. Orzol was in her late 20s and about to set off on her own adventures. Today, she varies its look by attaching it to larger bags or changing the strap.

Much like her view of Johannesburg — a city of surprising depth if you know where to look, she said — Ms. Orzol’s purse does not conform: “There are no rules; I carry during the day or at night. It’s not just for special occasions, so it appears at random, random moments.”

Gulshan Khan for The New York Times

Stylist and fashion reseller

It was the smiley faces hanging around the neck of the New York rapper ASAP Rocky in an Instagram photo that caught Lethabo Pilane’s eye.

A thrifter, as a fashion reseller is called in Johannesburg, he tapped into an online community and found a reseller in Britain offering one of the same necklaces. The Evae+ piece cost 120 euros ($136), but shipping it to South Africa cost an additional €70. He still decided to go for it.

When the necklace arrived — with its butterflies and dice charms, topped off with yellow smiley faces — it matched Mr. Pilane’s aesthetic and personality perfectly. “I’m such a happy guy,” he said.

Mr. Pilane, 25, prefers to stack the necklace with other colorful, unexpected pieces, like bright beads or pearls, for a style that straddles street and high-end, and fits right into Maboneng, the trendy inner-city neighborhood he has called home since 2017.

He came to Johannesburg the year before, leaving the mining city of Rustenburg to study fashion before dropping out to focus on the city’s growing thrifting market. Now he spends his days in the city center, sifting through mountains of secondhand clothes that have been shipped in from the United States, Britain, China and Japan and selling them to everyone from students to professionals.

“You’re actually saving the world” by buying secondhand, he said, “because when you come to check all the harm that fast fashion is doing to the world, it’s just crazy.”

Gulshan Khan for The New York Times

Owner of Netsi Ethiopia Restaurant and importer

When Nesanet Abera Tumssa left Addis Ababa in 2005, her mother made sure she was carrying sand from the Patriarchate Monastery of Holy of Holies Mary, the church in the center of Ethiopia’s capital where Ms. Tumssa was baptized.

The sand is inside a pendant topped with a silver dome that has a picture of the Virgin Mary taped on the underside. Her mother “blessed me, to protect me,” said Ms. Tumssa, 43, and she now wears the pendant as a necklace.

South Africa was meant to be a stopover to Ireland, where Ms. Tumssa planned to study engineering. But she fell in love with Johannesburg’s frenzy and became part of the city’s large immigrant community.

Following in the footsteps of her mother, who runs a restaurant in Addis Ababa, Ms. Tumssa opened a restaurant that serves tourists and Johannesburg’s Ethiopian diaspora in search of a bottle of St. George’s beer. She also recognized that there was a market for Ethiopian coffee and cuisine, and now imports ingredients for the increasing number of Ethiopian restaurants around the city.

Despite the attacks on African immigrants that erupt in the city every few years, Ms. Tumssa is determined to share Ethiopian culture with its residents. Johannesburg can be “aggressive,” she said, but it is also “freedom.”

MarketForce partners with Cellulant to expand in five new markets across Africa as it races to cover continent - TechCrunch

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

MarketForce, a Kenyan B2B retail and financial services distribution startup, has expanded into five additional markets across Africa to grow RejaReja — its retailer ‘super app’ that makes it possible for informal merchants to order and pay for inventory digitally, accept payments for utility bills, and access financing for their businesses.

The startup has today announced entry of RejaReja, the B2B retail marketplace, into Ethiopia, Ghana, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda, after successful pilot programs, coming about two months after it grew beyond Kenya by launching in Nigeria.

MarketForce has partnered with Cellulant, a pan-African payments company that makes it possible for local and international merchants to accept “locally relevant and alternative” payment methods from their customers, to expand into these new markets.

“We are working with Cellulant to open the new markets, and the reason is they already have a presence in these markets and have partnerships with both banks and billers. This will ensure that we focus on acquiring new merchants,” MarketForce’s co-founder and CEO, Tesh Mbaabu told Techrunch.

Cellulant has partnerships with 46 mobile-money operators in Africa, 120 banks and serves 35 African countries with a physical presence in 18, according to the payments firm. RejaReja is set to tap Cellulant’s coverage to grow across the continent.

“We have been piloting this partnership for six months and are happy to announce the plan to extend the fruitful relationship we have built with MarketForce in Kenya…This collaboration will make our digital financial services available to millions of Africans, with the goal of significantly boosting financial inclusion and incomes for merchants across Sub-Saharan Africa,” said Cellulant chief business officer, David Waithaka.

Mbaabu said that they aim to grow their RejaReja merchants tenfold to 1 million by the end of next year. RejaReja has experienced a rapid growth since its launch in December 2020 with over 87,000 orders made through the platform to date at an average basket value of $151. It is expected to record $60 million in annualized transaction volume by the end of this month.

“In November we hit 100,000 merchants in Kenya and Nigeria and this number is growing quite rapidly. Currently, we are growing 40% month on month. This shows how strong our service is,” said Mbaabu.

“The growth is because the merchants are seeing the value, it is a vote of confidence in our platform by the merchants. And a lot of them are using technology for their businesses for the first time,” said Mbaabu, who co-founded MarketForce with Mesongo Sibut in 2018 as an SaaS product for the formal markets. The service’s active users include Unilever, Pepsi, Safaricom and CocaCola. MarketForce recently raised $2 million in seed funding.

The startup’s plan for RejaReja is to have a presence in every market across sub-Saharan Africa in the near future by building an all inclusive platform for the informal merchants, who sell a huge chunk of the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCGs) in Africa. In sub-Saharan Africa about 80% of household retail is delivered through informal retailers but these shops are faced with a number of challenges like stockouts, earnings instability and financing that make it hard for their businesses to grow.

MarketForce, through RejaReja, is providing solutions to these challenges by ensuring next-day delivery of goods, and using their data to develop the credit profiles needed to secure loans. The startup has partnered with Pezesha — a digital financial marketplace platform — to extend loans to its merchants.

Mbaabu said, “we see RejaReja being the largest retail distribution network in sub-Saharan Africa.”
“The goal is to empower all these merchants to grow their incomes and profits in a digital age, to access inventory, to act as special agents for various financial services, and to make extra income as a result. We are able to extend working capital loans too.”

Israeli Startup's Drones Deliver Food Within Five Minutes to US Homes - Algemeiner

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

An airborne Flytrex drone. Photo: Flytrex

An Israeli engineer who set out to land an unmanned spaceship on the moon is now seeking to spearhead aerial drone deliveries of food and other goods to American suburbs.

Yariv Bash is the co-founder of SpaceIL — a non-profit that is on course to make its second attempt at an unmanned moon landing in 2024 — and CEO of drone delivery startup Flytrex.

Back in 2013, Bash and his then roommate Amit Regev co-founded Flytrex to develop black boxes for consumer drones for real-time data tracking, before realizing in 2016 that the “killer application for drones is going to be drone delivery.”

“We are focusing on short range, high volume, and ultra-affordable drone deliveries to suburbs — that’s what we do. We have been delivering eggs, hot coffee, hot sandwiches, ice cream, and it works,” Bash told The Algemeiner in an interview on Sunday. “I like to call it the future of instant gratification. You can stay home and get that item delivered to you for the same price as in the store without any additional fee. So why bother getting out of your house to get it?”

Related coverage

December 5, 2021 6:09 pm

In September 2020, Walmart launched a pilot to use the startup’s fully automated drones for backyard delivery of select grocery and household essential items from their stores around Fayetteville, North Carolina. This June, the restaurant chain El Pollo Loco began testing the door-to-backyard drone delivery in Southern California.

Bash explained that the drones are controlled through the internet, and don’t require anyone to fly them or drop the packages off at delivery in the backyard.

“There is no joystick. There is no video camera. All you have to do is install the app on your phone, choose your products, and press the order button. We can perform 10 to 15 deliveries per hour using multiple drones,” Bash said.

Flytrex drones can carry up to 6.6 lbs, he added. “Google’s drone delivery system can carry less than half the payload that we can, so it’s more about a coffee and a muffin and not the dinner for a family.”

The drones can fly at 32 mph for three miles, and are said to reach customers’ backyard within five minutes. Once the drone arrives at its destination, the delivery is gently lowered from an altitude of 80 feet using a wire-release mechanism.

The goal, Bash added, is not to charge the customer any additional delivery or service fees. “For the customer it is as affordable as going to the store, minus the time and money it costs you to get to the store,” he noted. “For the restaurant, it costs much less than the up to 30 percent they would pay Uber or Wolt today.”

For now, Flytrex’s pilot fleet stations are set up mainly in shopping malls, where they have runners who pick up orders from restaurants and place them in a box attached to the delivery drone.

“We are working on a future version to remove the runners as well, so that the drone will be outside the restaurant” and loaded by employees, Bash said.

In 2017, Flytrex launched the world’s first fully autonomous urban drone delivery system in Reykjavik, Iceland. One year later, the startup was accepted by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the United States aviation authority, to a pilot program.

In North Carolina, Flytrex has three drone stations operating dozens of deliveries a day for food orders from restaurants and retail chains at the Holly Springs Towne Center. The volume of Flytrex orders across its North Carolina operations has increased more than tenfold since February, with thousands of deliveries to date, the startup reported last month.

Flytrex finds itself in good company in applying for airworthiness certification to expand its geographical reach in the US. Companies like Amazon and Alphabet’s Wing have received some regulatory approvals from the FAA, which allows them to participate in delivery via drone services with a limited number of pilots and drones.

“The same kind of certification which is done for airplane is adapted to unmanned vehicles. In the past four years, we have been busy with turning a drone into a commercial airplane and getting it certified by the FAA to allow us to perform deliveries all over the United States,” Bash said. “It means that we are going through the same regulatory hurdles and are being tested as if we are a commercial airplane like Boeing, which is very different from operating a regular consumer drone.”

“We are going to be one of the few first companies that will ever receive that certification, which we expect to get within the next six months,” he added. “Then what we want to do is to deliver whatever people need to the backyards in the US.”

Flytrex last month raised $40 million in a series C funding round — taking its total funding to date to $60 million — to forge additional partnerships with retail chains and fast-food restaurants for its US expansion.

Bash contended that a lot of the large restaurant chains and retailers are less inclined to work with the likes of Alphabet’s Google because they are concerned about privacy issues and data-sharing.

“I think that currently we have more commercial partners than Google,” Bash said. “For now, we are very much focused on the US, but in in a few years, Europe is also a very interesting market.”

Duke Men Post Five Top-Five Marks, Three Top Finishes - Duke University - GoDuke.com

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –  The Duke men posted five top-five Blue Devil marks along with a trio of top finishes to wrap up a strong opening weekend of competition at the JDL College Kick-off for the Blue Devil track & field program.

"It was a really good opening meet," said director of track & field Shawn Wilbourn. "It's clear that the talent we've acquired on the men's side is at an all-time high and I'm excited for how that's going to bode for this upcoming indoor season and ACC Championships."

Junior Beau Allen, graduate student Michael Fairbanks and sophomore Alejandro Rodriguez secured the three first place finishes for the Blue Devils, while also posting top-five finishes in the Duke record books. Allen reached a height of 2.12m (6-11.5 feet), matching his No. 4 all-time high jump mark set at the 2020 Tiger Paw Invitational. Fairbanks' 5.15m (16-10.75 feet) mark moved him into a four-way tie for fourth in the pole vault on the Duke list, while Rodriguez's 1:20.85 converted time in the 600m ranks third all-time.

"I thought our vertical jumps today really stood out with Michael [Fairbanks] in the pole vault and Beau [Allen] in the high jump; both of them getting victories and getting on the top-five all-time list." said Wilbourn.

Two more Blue Devils secured their spot in the Duke record books following successful outings in their respective events. Junior Ezra Mellinger moved into second all-time and set a new personal best in the 60m dash at 6.82 seconds to take second place. The Ronks, Pa., native's mark was the best time in the event by a Blue Devil since the 1992 season. Freshman Michael Herzog made his Duke debut and placed third in the triple jump with 14.41m (41-3.5 feet), the third-best mark in program history.

Mellinger also took second in the long jump with a 7.11m (23-4 feet) mark and Almarhoun's jump measured 6.71m (22-0.25 feet) for fifth place. Sophomore Job Trahan clocked 1:24.49 (4th) in his first collegiate 600m race, with the 4x400m relay of Rodriguez, graduate student Miles Mingo, freshman Michael Bennett and sophomore Gage Knight finished second (3:20.23) to wrap up Sunday's top-five placements for Duke.

"I thought our decathletes also performed well – Gage Knight making the finals in the hurdles and Michael Bennett, as a freshman, performed well in the hurdles and the high jump. I'm excited for those guys and what they're going to be capable of doing once we get to some of the bigger meets."

The Breakdown: Eisenberg's Five Thoughts on Loss in Pittsburgh - BaltimoreRavens.com

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

Five thoughts on the Ravens' 20-19 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday at Heinz Field:

In the end, it all hinged on one decision. After the Ravens scored a touchdown to pull within one point with 12 seconds remaining, Head Coach John Harbaugh elected to go for two and try to win the game instead of kicking the extra point and going into overtime. I admit, I screamed. What a gutsy decision. It didn't work out when Lamar Jackson, under pressure, skipped a pass just off Mark Andrews' fingertips, but I get Harbaugh's rationale for going for it. I totally get it. The Ravens' defense was fading fast, having allowed 17 points on three Pittsburgh possessions in the fourth quarter. The Ravens' offense had struggled all day to score points, even while building a huge edge in time of possession. With all that in mind and the Ravens' top pass defender, Marlon Humphrey, gone from the game with an injury, asking Jackson to try to gain two yards to win is a dice-roll I'm willing to take. Sure, anything could have happened in overtime, and believe me, the old-school part of me wanted to kick the extra point. But the Ravens were never going to be closer to winning than they were when they lined up to go for two. Two yards, they needed, to win and drive a stake into the heart of the Steelers' hopes of winning the AFC North. Two yards. And Andrews was open. Tough. On to the next.

Serie A scores, highlights: Juventus shut out Genoa, closing on top five; Verona pip Venezia in wild comeback - CBSSports.com

Sunday was another day for goal-filled Serie A action with Juventus closing on the top five just one of several storylines to emerge. Massimiliano Allegri's men disposed of Genoa CFC yet are still significantly off the UEFA Champions League pace. Meanwhile, Hellas Verona improbably came out on top of a seven-goal thriller when they were 3-0 down away from home inside of 30 minutes. Lazio also produced a first-half masterclass in their win over Sampdoria while there were goals galore between Bologna and Fiorentina, too, as Vincenzo Italiano's men kept up the pace with Juve.

Craving even more coverage of the world's game? Listen below and follow ¡Qué Golazo! A Daily CBS Soccer Podcast where we take you beyond the pitch and around the globe for commentary, previews, recaps and more.

We recap the best of Sunday's calcio action.

Juventus 2, Genoa 0

Genoa's new boss did not see his luck change in Turin with Juve running out 2-0 winners, which saw Juan Cuadrado open the scoring inside of 10 minutes direct from a corner kick before Paulo Dybala made the game safe late on. Grifone are now winless since early September as the American-owned club's woes deepen toward the foot of the table.

Venezia 3, Verona 4

After 27 minutes, the home side was flying at 3-0 up and it was a question of whether it could add to that tally rather than whether or not Verona could salvage anything from the game. Pietro Ceccaroni, Domen Crnigoj and Thomas Henry all tallied yet the Frenchman's next strike at the wrong end shortly after halftime set off an unwanted reaction. Gianluca Caprari and Giovanni Simeone scored within minutes of each other to level before the Argentine added an unbelievable late winner to keep Igor Tudor's men looking upwards toward Europe.

Bologna 2, Fiorentina 3

Viola remain in the shake-up for Europe after coming out on top in another high-scoring affair with Dusan Vlahovic once more on target. Youssef Maleh gave the Tuscans the lead in the first half, but Musa Barrow had the hosts level before the break. Cristiano Biraghi and Vlahovic's penalty had the visitors up by two before Aaron Hickey cut the deficit late on to keep Italiano's men rolling.

Sampdoria 1, Lazio 3

Roberto d'Aversa may have led Blucerchiati for the last time after a blitz from Maurizio Sarri's Biancocelesti in the opening 45 minutes. Ciro Immobile scored twice after Sergej Milinkovic-Savic had opened the scoring before Manolo Gabbiadini grabbed the scantest of consolation goals for Sampdoria, who are still just five points from safety despite a recent rally as Lazio level with AS Roma.

Spezia 2, Sassuolo 2

Giacomo Raspadori hit a second-half double to save Sassuolo from falling to defeat against Spezia to keep up their record of dropping points after beating some of Serie A's big boys. Rey Manaj and Emanuel Gyasi had put Thiago Motta's men in front before that late brace, but Alessio Dionisi's side keep straddling the middle of the table.

‘What a disaster’: Hero Challenge leader hits five straight chips (!) in meltdown - Golf.com

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com
Sam Burns

Sam Burns throws his ball away on Sunday after his triple-bogey seven on the 14th hole at the Albany Golf Course.

NBC

Sam Burns, tied for the lead on the 14th tee at the Hero World Challenge, hit his tee shot left of the drivable par-4, but it skirted a bunker, kicked off some hard pan and settled in some grass. He had dodged trouble and had a chip for an eagle two.

“Could have been a lot worse,” analyst John Wood said on the NBC broadcast.

“Could have been much worse,” analyst David Feherty said.

And then it was. A lot worse and much worse were strokes two, three, four, five and six. Burns hit five chips (!!!!!), made a putt from just off the green for a triple-bogey seven and walked away three shots out of the lead during Sunday’s final round at the Albany Golf Course.

After the drive, Burns chipped up a slope, the ball ran past the hole, and it spilled off the other side of the green. Four more chips remained.

Chip two, and stroke three. With a fairway metal, Burns punched it up a slope, it didn’t reach the green and it rolled back to his feet. “David, that’s the risk you run when you put a shot like this on the ground — if it doesn’t get rolling early, it starts to bobble and it takes a lot of the energy out of it,” analyst Notah Begay said on the broadcast.

Chip three, and stroke four. Again with a fairway metal, Burns again punched his ball up the slope, this time it reached the green, but it was still on the upslope, and it again rolled back to his feet. “Boy, oh, boy, this just gets weirder,” Feherty said.

Chip four, and stroke five. For the third time with a fairway metal, Burns again punched his ball up the slope, it again didn’t make the green and it again rolled back to his feet. “What a disaster,” Feherty said on the broadcast.

Chip five, and stroke six. This time, Burns dumps the metal and plays an iron, and his ball just stays on the fringe. From there, incredibly, Burns rolled in the 15-footer for a triple-bogey seven, and he tossed away his ball.

“Terrific seven,” Feherty said. “Not sure I thought I’d be saying that at any stage. Man, what a day.”

Five suspects sought in drive-by shooting of woman in South L.A. - Los Angeles Times

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

Police are looking for five suspects in connection with the drive-by shooting of a 24-year-old woman Saturday night in South Los Angeles.

The shooting occurred at 11:45 p.m. near East 99th Place and Juniper Street near the boundary of Watts and the Florence-Firestone neighborhood, said Los Angeles Police Department dispatcher Laura Santoyo.

Authorities believe five men in a vehicle pulled up next to the woman seated in her vehicle and shot her. She was taken to a hospital and was listed in stable condition, police said.

No other details were available and the shooting remains under investigation.

Five new Steam games you probably missed (December 6, 2021) - PC Gamer

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

On an average day, about a dozen new games are released on Steam. And while we think that's a good thing, it can be understandably hard to keep up with. Potentially exciting gems are sure to be lost in the deluge of new things to play unless you sort through every single game that is released on Steam. So that’s exactly what we’ve done. If nothing catches your fancy this week, we've gathered the best PC games you can play right now and a running list of the 2021 games that are launching this year.

WorldBox

Steam‌ ‌page‌ ‌
Release:‌ December 3
Developer:‌ Maxim Karpenko
Launch price:‌ $20 ‌|‌ ‌£15.49 |‌ ‌‌AU$28.95

Launched into Early Access last week, WorldBox is a god game that tries to put as much destructive power into your hands as possible. You'll preside over a world with four races, each of which is capable of forming kingdoms and warring with others, and you might find it fun to just sit back and watch how this all plays out. Or, you could trigger a zombie apocalypse, send in some acid raid, usher a UFO visitation or better still, whack a giant crab in there and see what happens. It's basically a huge being-an-asshole simulator; Joseph dug it when he played an early build back in August. As for this Early Access release, it's the culmination of years of work and there's a lot to muck around with in there, though developer Maxim Karpenko expects another two years of development while new features like religions are added.

Paper Bride

Paper Bride

Steam‌ ‌page‌ ‌
Release:‌ December 3
Developer:‌ HeartBeat Plus
Launch price:‌ ‌$7.19 |‌ ‌£5.21 ‌|‌ ‌AU$10.35

Drawing from traditional Chinese folklore, Paper Bride is a fascinating horror game about a bride who literally turns into paper. The groom, understandably miffed about this, wants to figure out why this happened and ideally reverse it, only he finds that everything else related to the imminent wedding has turned to paper too: the food, the decorations. Paper Bride is a puzzle-oriented horror game with a point and click interface, so don't expect terrifying pursuits or scrappy combat. Expect a rich, disquieting atmosphere and some unique storytelling.

Mechajammer

Steam‌ ‌page‌ ‌
Release:‌ December 3
Developer:‌ Whalenought Studios
Launch price:‌ ‌$22.49 |‌ ‌£18 ‌|‌ ‌AU$32.35

Here's a tactical turn-based RPG with a unique setting and art style. It's ostensibly "cyberpunk," but more specifically, it's set in an "off-world grindhouse jungle colony". As far as I know, that is a setting not yet tackled by a videogame. As you roam this literal urban jungle in search of an escape, you'll need to team up with—or wage war on—mercenaries and gangs, and you'll need to be extra careful when you do so because your decisions matter here: Whalenought Studios calls it an immersive sim. Some players are reporting some launch week woes, but once those are ironed out this looks like a treat for serious RPG lovers.

Highrise Mogul

Steam‌ ‌page‌ ‌
Release:‌ ‌December 3
Developer:‌ Olli Arkko
Launch price:‌ ‌$9 |‌ ‌£6.74 |‌ ‌AU$13.05

Highrise Mogul looks like a modern take on SimTower: your job is to build a perfect highrise building full of offices, apartments, maintenance staff and places to relax. But it wouldn't be a tycoon game if it was all about building nice things, so you'll also need to manage the power grid, run PR campaigns to spruik your skyscraper, and make sure tenants follow the rules. The Steam page promises that, if you want, you can be the "most ruthless micromanaging landlord," which sounds like an absolute blast.

Leenie Boog

Steam‌ ‌page‌ ‌
Release:‌ December 3
Developer:‌ Alexander Bazhenov
Launch price:‌ ‌$4.49 |‌ ‌£3.59 |‌ ‌AU$6.75

This creepy survival horror game is apparently set during a "Thousand-Year War" but, more to the point, it includes an absolutely horrendous antagonist who's presence even in the trailer is going to give me nightmares. It's a first-person affair and it's all about stealth and evasion, so don't expect to cathartically murder the horrible Leenie Boog (that's the weird dog's name, didn't you know). There is a slight whiff of Five Nights at Freddy's here, but only because the stalker looks like a murderous living toy.

These games were released between November 30 and December 6 2021. Some online stores givers.  us a small cut if you buy something through one of our links. Read our affiliate policy for more info. ‌

With a five-shot lead at the Hero World Challenge, Collin Morikawa can smell World No. 1 - GolfDigest.com

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

NEW PROVIDENCE, Bahamas — With Collin Morikawa, it’s only a matter of time. He will summit the World Ranking. It is a when, not an if. That was true before this week. It would’ve been true had he finished dead-last this week. But Collin Morikawa is not finishing dead-last this week or any other week. He is the finest golfer in the world at present, capable of building a five-shot lead through 54 holes against a who’s-who field of superstars without his A-game. He has done exactly that at the Hero World Challenge, his eight-under 64 on Saturday pushing him to 18 under and within a whisper’s distance of a moment every golfer dreams of: becoming World No. 1.

“I don't know if comfortable's the word, it's just exciting,” Morikawa said of his growingly frequent spot atop leader boards. “You love being in these spots, and you don't get them every week. You wish you did, but when you do, you want to take advantage of them, so hopefully we can take advantage tomorrow.”

This is an exhibition in the Bahamas. Tiger’s exhibition, to be exact. But Woods never treated it as such—he only has one gear—and hoisted his own trophy five times. Morikawa also seems to know only one speed. As he marauded Albany with the sun setting on Saturday, flashing a much-improved short game that does not bode well for his peers, Morikawa had the tunnel-vision focus of a man chasing a major championship.

He won his first World Golf Championship in February. His second major in July. His first Race to Dubai title in his last start. Hell, all this kid does is win. (He scored another W on Tuesday, when he proposed to his longtime girlfriend Katherine Zhu. (She said yes.) Through Tiger’s first 60 starts as a professional, he had nine wins and one major. Through Morikawa’s first 60 starts as a professional, he has six wins and two majors. With a win on Saturday, he will become the second fastest player to reach World No. 1, doing so less than three years after turning professional. The only one faster was … well, you know the answer.

“It feels good,” Morikawa said of his round. “Just piggybacking off a couple weeks ago in Dubai. Look, I'm dissecting my game in a really good way of just figuring out what I need to do consistently to be a better player and to be in contention a lot more. Chipping, putting has put me in a spot so far through three rounds that I feel great and I've just got to keep doing that. I really need to figure out how to play hole 18 though a little bit better.”

He bogeyed it each of the first two days and seemed destined for another on Saturday after he hit his worst shot of the day, a tugged approach that left him in a shortsided bunker left of the green. He swung full-speed from that trap, nipping his third perfectly and pulling off a shot that Brooks Koepka, his closest chaser at 13 under, called “unbelievable.”

Koepka will join Morikawa in the final twosome. It wasn’t so long ago that the 31-year-old sat in the No. 1 spot that Collin has his eyes on, but he now sits at No. 16 after a two-year stretch that has left him disgusted with his results. His knee has improved to the point where he is able to spend hours on the range—he headed there directly after signing for his three-under 69—and he has a new ball and a bunch of new sticks in the bag after inking an endorsement deal with Srixon just a few weeks ago. This, then, will be his first chance to test the new gear amid the heat of competition. Yes, this is an exhibition, but it won’t feel like one when these two tee it up on Sunday afternoon.

“I'm just more excited seeing the equipment than anything,” Koepka said. “It's been very, very easy, which is nice. Everything's reacting the way I want it to, so I'm pleased with that, but I'm still not playing—clicking on all cylinders, but yeah, it's definitely a step in the right direction, so I'm very happy.”

Koepka will be fighting a steeply uphill battle, as will the quartet of players at 12 under, for Morikawa has blossomed into an excellent closer. Five of his six professional wins have come from behind, and he now has a five-shot lead. Morikawa said he wouldn’t change up his game plan at all playing from the front. Koepka understands why.

“He's done a pretty good job so far," he said, "so I wouldn’t switch it up if I was him.”

College Football Playoff: Five NFL draft takeaways from final rankings - NFL.com

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

The College Football Playoff selection committee revealed its final rankings on Sunday, with the same teams in the top four as last week. There was a slight change in the order of the top four, though, as Alabama moved up two spots to No. 1 and Georgia fell from its perch at the top to No. 3 in the wake of the Crimson Tide's 41-24 win over the Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game.

The national semifinal matchups, which will be held on Dec. 31:

  • Cotton Bowl: Alabama (No. 1) vs. Cincinnati (No. 4) at AT&T Stadium (Arlington, Texas)
  • Orange Bowl: Michigan (No. 2) vs. Georgia (No. 3) at Hard Rock Stadium (Miami Gardens, Florida)

Here are five draft-focused takeaways from the playoff pairings:

1) Michigan's Aidan Hutchinson is the top 2022 NFL Draft prospect to watch. The senior edge rusher has been a dominant force all season long for the Wolverines and ranks among the FBS leaders in sacks with 14. In fact, he's emerged as a candidate to be drafted first overall next year. NFL.com analyst and former scout Bucky Brooks likened his game to that of Los Angeles Chargers star Joey Bosa, the third overall pick of the 2016 draft and Defensive Rookie of the Year that season.

2) Big opportunity awaits Cincinnati QB Desmond Ridder. The Bearcats signal-caller has already accepted an invitation to the Reese's Senior Bowl, where he'll get a chance to compete against some of the top prospects in the nation. The 2022 QB class as a whole isn't spoken about in the most glowing terms, but Ridder could go a long way to entering the all-star game with momentum by putting on a good show against Nick Saban's defense. He was ranked as the No. 3 senior QB last week by NFL.com analyst Chad Reuter, with Pitt's Kenny Pickett and Liberty's Malik Willis ahead of him. As NFL.com's Tom Pelissero reported on Sunday, this is a huge moment for Cincinnati coach Luke Fickell, as well.

3) Will Georgia's defense bounce back? The Bulldogs' D -- loaded with NFL talent -- hadn't allowed more than 17 points in a game this season prior to a stunning letdown against Alabama on Saturday. Michigan is averaging 47.7 points per game over the last three weeks, and that includes wins over Ohio State -- No. 2 at the time of the game against UM -- and Iowa, which was ranked 15th heading into the Big Ten title bout. DT Jordan Davis -- No. 6 in Reuter's most recent rankings -- and Co. have some soul searching to do leading up to the matchup against the Wolverines.

4) Jameson Williams vs. Ahmad Gardner should be fun to watch. Both the Alabama receiver and the Cincinnati cornerback are juniors who have yet to state their intentions for the 2022 draft, but they're among the most highly regarded talents are their respective positions. Plus, Gardner's nickname is Sauce, which only heightens his appeal in our book.

5) Take a peek into the more distant future. Alabama quarterback Bryce Young and edge rusher Will Anderson are both sophomores, and therefore won't be eligible for draft entry until 2023 at the earliest. But they're already generating a ton of excitement in the scouting community. Young is the Heisman Trophy front-runner and Anderson leads the FBS in sacks with 15.5.

Five Facebook hacks to improve your experience - New York Post

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

Fancy Facebook fonts

There’s a popular font generator that people use to make their Facebook posts stand out.

It’s called Cool Fancy Text Generator and you just need to type in your text, select the font you want and then copy it to your Facebook post.

Send voice messages on Messenger

Voice messages are very popular on WhatsApp but did you know you can also send them over Facebook Messenger?

Open the relevant chat and hold down the microphone to send a quick voice note.

Mute annoying friends

If you don’t want to delete or block someone on Facebook but you find their posts really annoying, you could try muting them.

Click on the three dots in the upper right hand corner of an annoying post and select to hide all posts from that person or ‘Snooze’ them for 30 days.

This should clear up your feed for content you actually want to see.

Control Facebook notifications

Facebook notifications can get annoying, especially if you hear about them on email, SMS and push notifications on your phone.

To control this, go to ‘Settings & Privacy’, ‘Settings’, ‘Notifications’ and then toggle on or off how you would like to receive notifications.

You can turn them off altogether if you so wish.

Use Facebook ‘Text Delights’

Facebook sometimes includes text-based ‘Easter eggs’ for certain words.

If you’re commenting on someone’s post and write words like “congratulations” or “rad”, you may notice they show up in a different color.

This means you’ve found a Text Delight.

It means if you click on the highlighted word a fun animation pops up.

For “congratulations”, the animation is usually balloons flying across your screen.

American coach Jesse Marsch out after eight months at RB Leipzig - ESPN

bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

RB Leipzig have released American head coach Jesse Marsch from his contract with immediate effect.

The two parties announced on Sunday they have "mutually agreed to part ways" after a run of four defeats on the bounce and the decision follows RB Leipzig's 2-1 defeat to Union Berlin on Friday, which left Leipzig 11th in the Bundesliga. Marsch missed Friday's match after returning a positive test for COVID-19.

- ESPN FC 100: Presenting the top male players and managers of 2021
- ESPN+ viewers' guide: LaLiga, Bundesliga, MLS, FA Cup, more

In April, the 48-year-old signed a two-year deal, but the news sees him leave Leipzig after just eight months in charge. Leipzig have suffered six defeats in their opening 14 Bundesliga matches, and three defeats in their five Champions League encounters, thus club CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has decided to act on their poor form.

"It was not easy for us to part company with Jesse Marsch, because I hold Jesse in high regard as a person and as a coach," Mintzlaff said in a statement. "It is a shame that things did not work out as we had hoped with this setup, and that this step has now become necessary.

"Unfortunately, the development we were hoping for and the results needed to achieve our goals for the season have not been achieved."

Leipzig will announce a successor "in the near future" with assistant coach Achim Beierlorzer taking charge of their next match against Manchester City on Tuesday in the Champions League.

"We are currently running short of our own expectations and with this decision we want to create a new impulse," Mintzlaff said. "Regardless of this, however, I also see our players as having a duty and I expect our team, which is very strong in sporting terms, to show its potential and quality on the pitch more consistently than it has done recently."

Marsch joined Leipzig in the summer, taking over from Julian Nagelsmann after he left to take the Bayern Munich job. He spent 14 years as a player in Major League Soccer, and had impressed as manager of New York Red Bulls, who he led to Supporters' Shield in 2015 before moving to FC Salzburg.

At Salzburg he led them to back-to-back Austrian Bundesliga titles before joining Leipzig.

He inherited a squad which had seen star defenders Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konate both leave, while Marcel Sabitzer also joined Nagelsmann at Bayern. Leipzig spent heavily in the summer, bringing in Andre Silva, Ilaix Moriba, Angelino, Josko Gvardiol and Mohamed Simakan. However, they started the season with three defeats in their opening four Bundesliga matches.

Marsch's Leipzig did record some impressive results: they beat Hertha Berlin 6-0 and edged past Borussia Dortmund 2-1, but with their Champions League hopes over before the knockouts, and another defeat on Friday -- one which Mintzlaff labelled catastrophic -- Marsch leaves just eight months after being handed the job.

"I am very grateful to be part of the Red Bull family and to have been given this opportunity!" Marsch said. "Up until the very end, I remained hopeful that after a troubled start to the season and inconsistent performances, we would find more cohesion and stability as a group and turn our fortunes around.

"Unfortunately, we didn't manage to do that -- after a discussion with Oliver Mintzlaff, we came to the joint decision to make a change in the coaching position.

"I keep only positive thoughts in my mind and wish for the club, the team, the staff and all the fans that RB Leipzig finds its way back to its old strengths very quickly and, given the quality in the team and in the club, I am sure that the club will achieve its goals."

Five Words Marked 2021 for World Stocks and May Do Again In 2022 - Bloomberg

It’s hard to make predictions, especially about the future, or so the saying goes. That’s certainly the case when it comes to stock markets.

This time last year, your average strategist may not have seen that the world’s best-performing index in 2021 would be Mongolia, or that a movie theater chain would offer about 1,200% returns.
