MUNCIE — Ball State had the biggest turnaround among NCAA Division I women's basketball teams this year.
The Cardinals finished this season with a 21-10 overall record, earning 13 more wins than last year's squad. The 13-game turnaround ranks 30th all-time in NCAA history.
Led by eight-year head coach Brady Sallee, the Cardinals earned a No. 2 spot in the Mid-American Conference Tournament and finished with a 13-5 conference record. Ball State ranked among the country's best in defensive rebounds per game (10th, 30.2), free throws attempts (11th, 655), field goal percentage (49th, 36.8%) and 3-point defense (49th, 28.8%).

The Cardinals also had two all-conference selections in Oshlynn Brown and Sydney Freeman, who were selected to the All-MAC First Team and MAC All-Freshman Team, respectively.

Teague earns NABC All-District First Team honors

Ball State men's basketball redshirt senior forward Tahjai Teague was named to the All-District 14 First Team by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. This marks the latest postseason award for Teague, who was also named to the All-MAC First Team and MAC All-Defensive team. With the award, Teague becomes the first BSU player to earn NABC All-District First Team honors since Jarrod Jones in 2012.
This season, Teague earned a school-record six MAC West Division Player of the Week awards and led the Cardinals in scoring (14.4 ppg), rebounding (9.1 rpg), blocks (1.5 bpg), steals (1.2 spg) and field goal percentage (.506). Teague finished his collegiate career as just the second player in Ball State history to finish in the top 10 in points (10th, 1,518), rebounds (4th, 861), blocks (3rd, 134) and steals (7th, 159). The only other BSU player to rank top 10 in each of those categories is Bonzi Wells.
Dayton sophomore transferring to Ball State
Ella Skeens, a 5-foot-11 sophomore forward, has announced her decision to transfer to Ball State via Twitter. A Chillicothe, Ohio native, Skeens played in 17 games for the Dayton women's basketball team (25-8), which won 20 of its last 21 games this season and finished as Atlantic 10 champions. In her first two seasons at Dayton, Skeens averaged 1.7 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.
Burris' Perry commits to Virginia Tech
Burris volleyball star Mara Perry, originally committed to Radford, announced her commitment to play at Virginia Tech. Perry, a setter for the 26-7 Owls, was a key piece to Burris' success each of the past two seasons. In her two years at Burris, Perry finished with 1,888 assists, 445 digs and 61 aces. Playing in 182 sets, she averaged 10.4 assists per set.
Cowan's Demarchi commits to Indiana Wesleyan
Cowan volleyball's Martina Demarchi, a junior foreign exchange student from Switzerland, announced her commitment to play at Indiana Wesleyan. Demarchi was a prolific force for the Cowan Blackhawks, which finished the season 30-4 and won the Class A state championship this past season. Demarchi finished the year with a team-high 338 kills, 121 aces and 254 digs to go along with 27 blocks.
Delta's Detweiler named as an assistant to Indiana All-Stars
Delta boys basketball coach Mark Detweiler was named as an assistant coach for this year's Indiana All-Star boys basketball team. In his three seasons at Delta, Detweiler has gone 65-12 and won back-to-back sectional championships.
The team, which is scheduled to play the Kentucky All-Stars on June 5 and June 6, will be head coached by Carmel's Ryan Osborn. Assisting alongside Detweiler will be Heritage Hills coach Nate Hawkins.
New Castle's Rusch earns Cato Memorial Scholarship
New Castle senior Cooper Rusch was named one of 13 student-athletes honored with the 2020 C. Eugene Cato Memorial Scholarship by the Indiana High School Athletic Association Monday. The $2,500 scholarship, which honors late IHSAA commissioner C. Eugene Cato, is awarded to "Indiana's complete student-athletes," according to the release.
Rusch boasts a 4.3 GPA and earned 10 varsity letters at New Castle competing in basketball, football and track and field. He is also the president of New Castle's Renaissance club, member of the National Honor Society and competed in academic teams for the Trojans. Rusch, who will attend the University of Minnesota, also volunteered with the Wheeler Men's Mission and helped Christmas shop for children while also assisting with various sports camps.
