MUNCIE, Ind. — Danny Pinter doesn’t have to wait any longer to know where he’ll start pursuing his career as a professional athlete.
After he spent five years as a Ball State football player from 2015 to 2019. After he excelled as a member of BSU’s offensive line his final two seasons, having made a mid-college-career switch to the line from tight end. After the Indiana native out of South Bend established a legacy with Ball State and played in the 2020 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in Pasadena, California.

The Indianapolis Colts selected Pinter with the 149th overall pick in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
“Everyone (at Ball State), just how they’re constantly preparing you for whatever the next step is for you, I mean, I know all our guys that are just pursuing careers in the workforce feel well prepared just as people,” Pinter, listed at 6-4 and 306 pounds, told The Star Press in March. “I mean, Ball State just, the football program, they just get you prepared just as a man.”
Pinter collected a number of awards while playing at BSU. They included the program’s most improved player award in 2017, while he was still at tight end. They included the program’s leadership award in 2018 and 2019. They included the program’s strength and conditioning award in 2019 and most outstanding player award in 2019.
And Pinter, who started each of his final 24 games with BSU at right tackle, was an All-Mid-American Conference first team honoree this past season.
Indianapolis had selected four players, including Washington Huskies quarterback Jacob Eason, prior to picking up Pinter. Whether Pinter will play right away as a rookie or be a backup is, at this point, unclear. So, too, are what the lead up to the 2020 season and the season itself will look like given the situation COVID-19 has created. But this portion of his post-college journey is complete.
Ball State had most recently seen Jonathan Newsome and Keith Wenning both taken in the 2014 NFL Draft. Newsome, a defensive lineman, went to the Indianapolis Colts in the fifth round and Wenning, a quarterback, went to the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round. Neither are in the NFL anymore, although Newsome is listed on the roster of the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League.
Willie Snead IV, undrafted in 2014 out of Ball State, is a wide receiver in the NFL for the Ravens.
“Danny Pinter is one of those guys that for me is, you know, very — not very many times in your life you get a chance to coach a guy that’s that special,” BSU head coach Mike Neu told The Star Press this past October. “Danny’s special.”
Neu also tweeted Saturday: "Congrats (Pinter) on this unbelievable accomplishment!! You have represented Ball State University with pure class!! Looking forward to supporting you every step of the way as this next chapter begins!! Love you buddy!!"
