INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Colts today selected Ball State offensive lineman Danny Pinter with their fifth-round (149th-overall) pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Pinter, who turns 24 in June, is a 6-foot-4, 306-pound, South Bend, Ind., native. A converted tight end, Pinter last year was a First-Team All-Mid-American Conference selection at right tackle, as well as the Cardinals' Most Outstanding Player.
Pinter began his career at Ball State as a tight end. After redshirting in 2015, he started five games, hauling in three receptions for 10 yards, and then started six of the first seven games the following season — catching six passes for 46 yards and a touchdown — before suffering a season-ending injury. He was moved to right tackle the following season, where he would be a mainstay for his final two years for the Cardinals after adding 50 pounds to his frame.
In his NFL.com draft profile, draft analyst Lance Zierlein writes that Pinter "converted from tight end to tackle two years ago and will need to keep sliding inside as a zone-scheme blocker."
"His understanding of angles improved rapidly in-season, allowing his athleticism and agility to do their things as a move blocker," Zierlein writes.
