ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy men's lacrosse player Christian Daniel (Jr., Owings, Md.), women's golfer Morgan Frazier (Sr., Mechanicsburg, Pa.), women's swimmer Jamie Miller (Sr., Rochester Hills, Mich.), men's swimmer Micah Oh (Jr., Kent, Wash.) and gymnast Ben Provost (Sr., South Hadley, Mass.) represented the Midshipmen on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District II At-Large Teams, the national organization announced earlier this week.
Navy's five honorees are tied for fourth in the nation only behind Harvard and Minnesota's eight honorees and Stanford's seven. The Midshipmen are tied with Florida State and Alabama.
To be eligible for the initial district ballot, student-athletes must have attained a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 through the end of the 2019 fall semester, be at a minimum a sophomore academically and be a starter or key reserve on their respective team.
The at-large sports program consists of women's beach volleyball, women's bowling, women's crew, fencing, women's field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, men's volleyball, water polo and men's wrestling. CoSIDA's District II consists of Division I schools located in Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. Each school is allowed to nominate up to four student-athletes for their respective men's and women's district ballots.
A two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District II selection, Daniel owns a 3.83 grade-point average in astrophysics. He is ranked among the top 13 percent of his class (1,118 students) in academic order of merit and the top six percent in overall order of merit. Additionally, he stands, No. 3 in Military Order of Merit. He has been named to both the Superintendent's and Commandant's List in five of the last six semesters at the Naval Academy.
Daniel has enjoyed a remarkable athletic career where he has started 30 of the 31 games in which he has played, while scoring a point in 29 contests and a goal in 27 games. He has amassed 91 points in his three seasons of play, needing just nine points to become only the 36th player in the program's 114-year history to reach 100 career points. While the 2020 season was cut short (5 games) due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Daniel helped lead the Mids to a 3-2 record while pacing the team with 17 points on eight goals and a team-best nine assists.
Daniel was one of three Div. I men's lacrosse players recognized among the eight districts and one of two from the Patriot League.
Frazier earns her first career All-District accolade during her four years at Navy after compiling a 3.71 grade-point average as an operations research major. The senior was just one of nine women's golfers in Division I to earn the honor and lone Patriot League golfer. She completed her time at the Naval Academy ranked in the top-100 of her class (1,033 students) in overall order of merit while ranking seventh in military order of merit. Frazier also graduated as a distinguished graduate earlier this week. In her eight semesters at Navy, she was named to the Superintendent's List six times, Commandant's List seven times and Dean's List once. The senior also received submarines as her service selection.
In her career, Frazier was named to the 2018 and 2019 Patriot League All-Academic Teams while being named the 2018 Patriot League Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She earned First-Team All-Patriot League honors in 2018 and a second-team recognition in 2019. As the team captain over the last two seasons, Frazier helped Navy win its first three tournaments in school history. She finished her career with an average of 77.6 over 84 rounds while posting 13 top-10 finishes, five top-five finishes and an individual victory at the 2017 Seahawk Invitational.
Miller graduated 30th in the USNA's Class of 2020. The honors operations research major had posted a 3.95 cumulative GPA and earned a 4.00 GPA in five semesters through the end of the 2019 fall term while also receiving nuclear submarines as her service assignment. Miller garnered first-team all-league accolades for the third year in a row this season. She won the 2020 league title in the 200 backstroke to give her four career crowns in backstroke events at the meet. Miller also placed second in the 100 backstroke and eighth in the 200 individual medley and swam on Navy's winning 400 medley relay team this year. She was selected as the 2019 and 2020 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's swimming and diving.
Oh was named the 2020 Patriot League Swimmer of the Year and this year's Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's swimming. The honors applied mathematics major with a 4.00 cumulative GPA through the end of the 2019 fall term won the 200 fly and both individual medley events at this year's league championship. His winning time of 3:45.44 in the 400 IM set a new Navy, league and meet record. Oh also earned a first-team all-league nod in 2019 after he won the 200 fly and reached the championship final in two additional events.
An applied mathematics major with a 3.86 GPA, Provost has been a standout for the Mids throughout his four-year career. A leader in the team's floor exercise and high bar lineups, Provost's senior year saw him finish the shortened 2020 campaign ranked eighth in the nation with a 13.683 scoring average on the high bar to garner CGA All-American accolades. Additionally, his work on the high bar in 2020 earned him laurel from the USAG and ECAC organizations. From a floor exercise standpoint, Provost ranked sixth in the ECAC conference and was named All-ECAC this season courtesy of his 13.850 average. During his career, the South Hadley, Massachusetts native won high bar titles at the ECAC Championships in 2018 and 2019 and at the USAG Collegiate Championship in 2017.
Provost's work in the classroom has earned him First Team All-America Scholar-Athlete distinction by the Collegiate Gymnastics Association in 2017, 2018 and 2019, with the 2020 announcement coming this summer. On the Yard, he was recognized on the Naval Academy's Commandant's List in all eight semesters while he was a student in Annapolis. He is one of six gymnasts from across the nation to earn all-district accolades in this CoSIDA announcement.
Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced on Friday, June 19.
