Oklahoma State has gained a commanding lead on the 247Sports Crystal Ball in the recruitment of four-star Collin Oliver, a talented 2021 linebacker prospect from Edmond (Okla.) Santa Fe. Oliver plans to make a commitment announcement this coming Friday.
Oklahoma State has picked up seven 247Sports Crystal Ball forecasts for Oliver since Sunday morning. The Cowboys sit at 100 percent on the Crystal Ball. Steve Wiltfong, 247Sports Director of Football Recruiting, submitted the initial forecast just before 9 a.m. Sunday. Predictions have also come from GoPokes.com's Cody Nagel, OUInsider.com's Brandon Drumm, and HawgSports.com's Danny West.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Oliver named a top eight list in early April that included Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Iowa State, Nebraska, Ole Miss, TCU, Texas Tech, and Utah. Those eight programs account for 40 percent of Oliver's offer list to date. He has reported additional offers from the following programs: Colorado, Georgia, Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, Missouri, Oregon, Tennessee, Boise State, North Texas, SMU, and Tulsa.
The industry-generated 247Sports Composite rates Oliver as a four-star recruit who is ranked No. 15 nationally among 2021 inside linebacker prospects, as well as No. 4 overall regardless of position in the state of Oklahoma for his class. The Top247 rankings put Oliver higher. He is ranked No. 221 overall in the country's 2021 class, ninth among 2021 inside linebackers, and fourth overall in Oklahoma.
A football and track and field athlete, Oliver missed time with an injury this past fall and played in only six games for Edmond Santa Fe. Nevertheless, he recorded 30 tackles, two sacks, one interception, and three forced fumbles as Edmond Santa Fe finished with an 8-3 record and an Oklahoma Class 6A-I playoff berth. Oliver enjoyed a breakout sophomore season in the 2018 campaign, when he registered 56 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks, and one fumble recovery for a 7-4 team that earned a 6A-A playoff spot.
The following is the 247Sports scouting report on Oliver: "Good size and frame that fits an inside/middle linebacker projection, but could also fit on the edge in the right situation. Quality experience in multiple alignments, including three-point and four-point stances, as well as edge and traditional off-line linebacker. Quick off the ball when playing on the line. Generally a solid tackler with strong hands. Closes well in pursuit, whether vs. run or as a rusher. Dangerous coming from the backside. Flashes natural pass-rush feel from multiple spots. Very intriguing blitz option as off-line LB. Strong overall athletic profile. Competes in high jump (6-2), long jump (21-0 1/2), and shot put (42-9 1/2). Arrives high at times as a tackler and can improve technique consistency. Body control and balance can get better. Somewhat limited exposure to dropping in coverage. Potentially position- and scheme-versatile front-seven defender whose instincts and athleticism show on tape. Projects to high-major level as possible multi-year starter with NFL Draft ceiling.
