Seminole County Recreation Department Director Billy Fain is ready to open the gates to resume play on June 8th.
Following the observance of Coronavirus guidelines, the Seminole County Recreation Department will be reopening to the community on Monday, June 8 for practice sessions. Local play will resume on Tuesday, June 16 at 6:00 p.m. with games scheduled to be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Travel Ball USA tournaments are scheduled at the park for June 6 and 7, June 27 and 28, July 11 and 12 and August 1 and 2.
“We are very excited to have this opportunity to return to the ball fields and to the game we love,” Park Manager Billy Fain commented. COVID-19 guidelines have been put in place to ensure a safe return to the game. Fain asks that all park visitors review these guidelines closely. “We need every single player, coach, manager, parent, grandparent and all spectators to work with us to ensure all goes smoothly. This is new to all of us and we must work together to ensure that we can continue to complete the three weeks of play safely,” Fain added.
The following Coronavirus safety guidelines will be in place at the park. First and foremost, everyone entering the park will have their temperature checked. If anyone’s temperature is 100 or above, they will not be allowed to enter the park.
Bleachers will not be available for any seating. Spectators need to plan ahead and bring their own seating and maintain social distancing six feet apart between families up and down the fence line from the dugout to the foul poles. If using a tent, please restrict the tent to family members only and space tents a minimum of six feet apart.
After each game, in lieu of handshakes, each team shall line up on their respective baseline and tip their cap to the opposing team, minimizing player contact.
There will be no team coolers, and dugout personnel shall consist of essential team personnel only. No bat boys/girls, no scorekeepers, etc. – just active rostered, uniformed team players and up to three adults (one manager and two coaches). All players must be supervised at all times when expanding the dugout.
Parents should supply their players with antibacterial wipes and hand sanitizer for disinfecting shared playing equipment and cleaning hands between innings.
Players may wear any personal protection equipment deemed necessary by their parents as long as such items do not compromise the safety of any and all participants in the game.
Upon arrival at a dugout prior to a game, teams are to wipe down (clean) hard surfaces such as benches, bat racks, etc.
Teams are required to thoroughly clean their dugout of all trash and other items after each game, and wipe down (clean) hard surfaces such as benches, bat racks, etc.
Sunflower seeds and other items that require spitting shall be prohibited.
Park officials understand this is a serious illness; we request those with a chronic disease or those who are immune compromised, to please consider staying home and not attending until the doctors signal all clear.
“Any person who is experiencing symptoms of sickness will be prohibited from attending the event / venue of play. Please use common sense,” added Fain.
The concession stand and rest rooms will be open.
