The 2020 Fantasy football rankings have seen a major shakeup after quarterback Cam Newton signed with the New England Patriots. The former NFL MVP will bring a new dynamic to New England's offense that didn't exist when Tom Brady was under center. Newton's dual-threat ability could make him one of the popular 2020 Fantasy football best ball picks, but will he be among the top quarterbacks in the 2020 Fantasy football best ball rankings after missing almost an entire season with a foot injury?
Newton's talent and experience should make him the favorite to enter the season as the starter in New England, but how should you approach him during your 2020 Fantasy football draft prep? Those are the types of questions Fantasy owners are asking themselves ahead of draft day. Before you make any decisions about your 2020 Fantasy football best ball picks, see what SportsLine's Scott Engel has to say. His 2020 Fantasy football best ball rankings can help make sure you get maximum value out of every pick.
Engel is an inaugural member of the Fantasy Sports Writers Association's Hall of Fame and has been a premier analyst and Fantasy personality for nearly 25 years. He is a four-time FSWA Award Winner and nine-time nominee.
In addition to being the Fantasy writer for the official site of the Seattle Seahawks since 2012, Engel has appeared on ESPN.com, NFL.com, Yahoo Sports, the New York Post, USA Today, SI.com, Rotoballer and Sirius XM Fantasy Sports Radio and many other major sports news outlets. Engel also pulled off a three-peat in his highly-competitive New York City Fantasy football league in 2019 that features high-stakes players and top experts.
Now, Engel has released his 2020 Fantasy football best ball rankings and revealed his top sleepers, breakouts and busts so you'll have an edge.
Top 2020 Fantasy football best ball picks
Engel is extremely high on Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett. Seattle's speedy receiver has been sensational over the past two seasons, hauling in 18 touchdowns during that span. He's coming off an impressive 2019 campaign that saw him record his first 1,000-yard regular season, finishing with career-highs in receptions (82) and yards (1,057). Only Michael Thomas and Mike Evans had more PPR Fantasy points than Lockett through the first nine weeks of last season.
Plus, fellow Seahawks receiver D.K. Metcalf is expected to draw more double-coverage after recording 900 yards and seven scores in his rookie campaign. Metcalf's size and speed make him a matchup nightmare, which bodes well for Lockett in 2020. "The emergence of Metcalf can let Lockett loose for more big games this season," Engel told SportsLine.
And a massive shocker: Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who has 55 career touchdowns, stumbles big-time and barely cracks the top 70 wide receivers.
Jackson's 2019 started with much promise, as he exploded for an 8-154-2 receiving line in Week 1. But the rest of the season was a disaster, as Jackson was targeted just once more and eventually missed 13 games with a core muscle injury that required surgery. Even with 55 career touchdown receptions, Jackson is 33 and it is clear that his best days are behind him if he can't recover the speed that made him such a weapon in the Eagles' offense.
"Jackson is overrated," Engel told SportsLine. "He has not caught more than four TD passes in the past five seasons."
