The NBA season will resume in three days, and we’ve gotten to take in a lot through scrimmages and other events. Injuries, violations of protocol, and strategic adjustments have helped some players increase their perceived value. Here are five players who could be appealing daily fantasy basketball options when regular-season basketball returns.
Ben Simmons still has plenty of upside
The Philadelphia 76ers have made it known that Simmons is set to assume a more traditional power forward role while Shake Milton starts at point guard. Simmons is essentially averaging a triple-double through two scrimmages with limited playing time and has reach nine assists twice while running the offense in half court sets. His ceiling could be raised given that he’s shown the willingness to shoot the long ball sparingly, and spending more time around the rim could help his rebounding numbers.
The Los Angeles Lakers are undermanned at guard. Rajon Rondo is dealing with a thumb injury for an extended period of time and Alex Caruso has had back pain. Waiters will be competing with other wings and has raised his perceived usefulness considerably. Even though Waiters mostly just provides scoring, his average of 10.5 points on 50 percent shooting in the scrimmages bodes well for his fantasy production moving forward. He could become Los Angeles’ top scoring option off the bench.
Nurkic was a top 10 fantasy center on DraftKings last season and is proving he can still be very effective after taking a long break because of a leg injury. He’s averaging a double-double in scrimmage play and was more productive than Hassan Whiteside in his last outing. Nurk is scoring and rebounding effectively, and has been able to do solid work on the defensive end as well. He could very well be one of the most productive bigs in the bubble.
Paul George is emerging as must-play option for Thursday
Lou Williams has to be quarantined for 10 days after his recent trip to Atlanta, and he’s expected to miss the first two games of the seeding round. George was electric in his first scrimmage and basically scored a point per minute. He’s the Clippers’ second offensive option behind Kawhi Leonard and should get an increased workload without the league’s top sixth man. George is reasonably priced ($7,200) in classic contests ahead of Thursday’s Clippers-Lakers game and is worth captaining at $14,400 in a showdown.
Bol Bol could be a force to be reckoned with
Bol hasn’t played in an NBA game yet this season, but is already generating a ton of buzz after being featured in the Denver Nuggets’ jumbo lineup. While he wasn’t super productive as a shooter, he proved that he can do a little bit of everything. He is averaging 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game through two scrimmages. While his field goal percentage (36.4 percent) isn’t high, he could prove to be a top-notch value play depending on his price.
