Lonzo Ball and De’Aaron Fox have one of the more interesting, unique rivalries in the NBA. Largely stemming from one college contest, Ball and Fox have been stacked up against one another often throughout their careers.

Both of them landing in the Pacific Division out of the draft further stoked a fire that was already roaring after two high-profile college clashes.

The rivalry has a recurring trend throughout. In most meetings, Fox outshines Ball individually but it is Ball’s team that often walks away with the win. In 10 total meetings, Ball holds a 6-4 record against Fox but has outscored Fox just twice in those match-ups.

Considering the two are a pair of the premier young point guards in the game, there will likely be many more games in the future. Here’s a look at the 10 games they’ve played so far.

1 2016 McDonald's All-American Game

The first match-up between the two came in the McDonald’s All-American Game. Ball suited up for the West roster as a starter next to Malik Monk, Fox’s future Kentucky teammate. Across from Ball was Fox and Terrance Ferguson.

Neither Ball nor Fox shot well in the game, the former going 0-for-3 from the field and the latter finished 1-for-8. Ball, though, had a game-high 13 assists and his lone steal was on a Fox turnover. Fox finished with two points, seven assists and four rebounds.

The West won the game, 114-107.

The first official meeting between the two came late in the same year when Ball and No. 11 UCLA traveled to Rupp Arena to take on No. 1 Kentucky.

The Bruins controlled the game throughout despite being on the road against a Wildcats side that had won 42-straight games at home. Ball had some timely baskets as UCLA built a double-digit second-half lead and carried it through to the final whistle.

Individually, Ball finished with 14 points, seven assists and six rebounds on 5-of-12 from the field, 2-of-8 from three and 2-of-2 from the line. Fox had a better statistical night, going for 20 points and nine assists while shooting 8-of-20 from the field and 1-of-4 from range.

The game that made the rivalry.

Meeting for the second time in the season, No. 3 UCLA and No. 2 Kentucky squared off in the Sweet 16 in Memphis. This time, Fox had his way and then some.

Fox finished the night with 39 points, a freshman Kentucky scoring record, as Kentucky avenged its regular season loss with an 86-75 win. It did Ball no favors that he finished with 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting.

The first NBA meeting between the two came in November of their first season. Ball, who had an inconsistent rookie season, finished with 11 points, 11 assists and went 4-of-8 from the field.

But Fox and the Kings jumped out to an early lead and earned a 113-102 win, Fox finished with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting.

Ball got revenge in their second game, even if he did struggle individually. Ball shot just 2-of-10 from the field for five points but had 11 assists and 11 rebounds as the Lakers earned a 99-86 win.

Fox shot 6-of-16 overall and had 15 points with four steals and three assists but the Kings blew a half-time lead to lose by double digits.

Ball missed the final two games of the 2017-18 season against the Kings and the two sides would not meet again until the 2018-19 season.

With LeBron James on his side, Ball got another win but it was largely in spite of him. He finished with a paltry four points, four rebounds and three assists on 2-of-10 shooting but the Lakers still won 101-86.

Fox again won the personal battle, tallying 21 points, seven rebounds and two assists on 8-of-17 shooting.

Ironically, Ball’s best individual game came in a loss. On a night when he shot 8-of-13 from the field and 4-of-6 from range and finished just one assist shy of a triple-double with 20 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists, Fox got the last laugh.

Bogdan Bogdanovic buried a game-winner at the buzzer as the Kings won 117-116. Fox nearly had a triple-double himself with 15 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds, but shot a much less efficient 6-of-20 from the field.

Three days later, the two sides met again with a similar story playing out. Ball struggled individually by the Lakers earned the win. He finished with 13 points on 6-of-14 shooting with six assists. Fox shined bright, pouring in 26 points, seven assists and four rebounds while going 12-of-19 from the field.

But the LeBron James-less Lakers staved off the Kings for a 121-114 win.

Again, injuries and a trade forced a break of over a year between match-ups. Ball missed the final Lakers game of the 2018-19 season and the Pelicans did not meet Sacramento until early 2020.

This time, Ball shined and the Pelicans won as he poured in 24 points on 9-of-19 shooting with 10 assists and six rebounds. Fox had 17 points on 5-of-14 shooting with five assists.

JJ Redick stole the spotlight, though, with his late layup giving the Pelicans a memorable 117-115 win.

Fox got the last laugh in the rivalry currently inside the NBA’s bubble. In a match-up with big playoff implications, the Kings’ cruised to a 140-125 win behind a huge night from Fox. He tallied 30 points and 10 assists on 12-of-21 shooting.

Ball, who notably struggled in the bubble, had nine points and 11 assists but shot just 4-of-7 from the field.
