The New Orleans Pelicans will have to face a few changes going into next season and while head coach Alvin Gentry could be among them, there will need to be a roster inspection as well. According to David Aldridge of The Athletic, people down in Orlando saw point guard Lonzo Ball “looked liked he’d checked out the whole time.”
That’s quite the statement, considering his teammates, staff, and front office personnel have risked their health and that of their loved ones to take part in the restart.
If words don’t convince enough, a quick look at Lonzo Ball’s production should say enough about his performance and anemic efforts.
Before the season came to a halt, Ball had five consecutive games scoring in double figures, including a back-to-back 26- and 25-point game.
The restart was a turn of the page, but the page was turned back. Ball has only scored in double figures once in the Pelicans’ seven games thus far and he’s wildly struggled shooting the ball.
Lonzo Ball is shooting 35.6% from the floor and 28.1% from deep through the restart, despite receiving consistent minutes at point guard.
This isn’t the first time his work ethic has come into question, as it did a few times during his tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers as his shooting woes continued.
If the Pelicans find he “checked out,” they could soon look for other alternatives, despite his natural connection with franchise star Zion Williamson this season.
