Bucks County’s number of new COVID-19 cases remained steady, but several new deaths were reported.
According to the Bucks County Department of Health, the county saw 241 infections reported last week, a daily average of about 34. The number was the same as the week before. A total of 16 of the cases were delayed reports no longer considered to be active.
Looking at the 241 cases in the county last week, 105 were due to household contacts, 43 from community spread, 18 caused by out-of-state travel, 13 were residents or employees of long-term care facilities, five were healthcare workers, five caught the virus at other workplaces, and 53 were unable to immediately complete a full contact tracing interview.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported that Bucks County has a moderate level of community transmission.
“We are seeing every day now that our younger and healthier populations are not getting seriously ill from this virus, which is terrific news,” Dr. David Damsker, director of the Bucks County Health Department, said in a statement. “However, we have to maintain a strong focus on limiting transmission to our senior citizens and others with high-risk medical conditions.
“Don’t go to work sick, don’t go to a party sick and think about how your actions can impact others’ health, even if you aren’t worried about yourself,” Damsker said.
Focusing on the current week, Bucks County has seen five patients with COVID-19 die, according data covering the period of Sunday to Monday.
Those who died were three women – ages 62, 71, and 93 – and two men – ages 27 and 74. Four of the five decedents had underlying health conditions, including the 27-year-old man, whose underlying conditions were considered “severe,” according to the county health department.
The 27-year-old man’s death marks the county’s youngest COVID-19 patient death. In April, a 31-year-old Levittown man with COVID-19 died due to complications from the virus.
On Monday, the county reported for the first time in months that there were no COVID-19 patients remaining in critical condition, but 10 people were in area hospitals in less serious condition.
The majority of COVID-19 patient deaths in the county occurred in spring as the virus hit older populations hard, with the average COVID-19 patient death being 84. In the months since, outbreaks in skilled care and retirement communities have dropped, the overall number of local cases has fallen, and medical treatments for the ill have progressed.
Since the pandemic began, Bucks County has seen 8,232 residents test positive for COVID-19, 530 deaths, and 7,307 recoveries.
