bolaboladulu.blogspot.com

Let’s start with a bonus. It’s being called the Pandemmys, that’s iconic in itself. The 2020 Emmys managed to be one of the first award shows to be virtual. Despite not being in some mega theatre with many stars presenting and going on stage to win their awards—there were so pretty epic wins and moments. Here are five instantly iconic moments from the 2020 Emmys.

But first, watch Jimmy Kimmel’s opening monologue...

Laverne Cox calls out the Emmys for snubbing her...again!

Laverne Cox has been nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series once and Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series three times, meaning the actress has been nodded on four separate occasions for her groundbreaking role as Sophia Burset in “Orange is the New Black.” Yet, she has never won. While presenting the award for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, she blasted the Emmys for being snubbed, yet being asked to always show up, present and serve as representation for transgender performers.

Watch Cox’s speech below.

A dynamic father-daughter duo both win in the same year

While Ron Cephas Jones is known for his roles on “Mr. Robot” and “Luke Cage,” his breakout performance was on “This is Us,” eventually winning him an Emmy in 2018. Though, it would not be his last. The actor not only won in the same category of Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series in 2020, but his daughter Jasmine Cephas Jones—best known for her roles of Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds in “Hamilton”—won her first Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series this same year for “#FreeRayshawn."

The dynamic duo became the first father-daughter to win Emmys in the same year.

Zendaya is the youngest ever Outstanding Lead Drama Actress winner!

Many stan Zendaya for her style, advocacy and talent. She’s been on the rise for years—starring in MCU blockbusters and on hit TV shows, most recently as troubled teen Rue Bennett in “Euphoria.” Now she’s reached a new peak in her career. She’s only the second Black actress to win Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for “Euphoria,” but she’s also made history as the youngest star to ever win in the category. Dang! While she couldn’t “werk” the red carpet this year, even while at home, she slayed her own carpet. She wore a black-and-white polka two-piece ensemble while accepting her big win. While women are constantly asked “What are you wearing?,” it’s no secret that Zendaya is a fashion forward icon. Edges were snatched, and she did so without even leaving her house.

Regina King and Uzo Aduba win in their Breonna Taylor t-shirts

Both Regina King and Uzo Aduba are no strangers to winning Emmys. King won her fourth Emmy. This time she won for Outstanding Actress in a Limited Series or a Television Movie for her performance in the highly praised “Watchmen.” Uzo Aduba won her third Emmy, and this time for her role as the legendary politician Shirley Chisholm in “Mrs. America” in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie category.

Both Emmy winner showed their support for Breonna Taylor who was shot and killed in her home by a trio of officers in Louisville, Ky. in March—leading to nationwide protests yet no arrests. While King’s shirt had Taylor’s face on it and the call to action “Say Her Name," Aduba’s black t-shirt simply had Taylor’s name across it. Both women gave political speeches, while honoring Taylor.

Check out both speeches below!
