MOREHEAD, KY. – With numerous historical record projects and updates underway, Morehead State Athletics wants to take time to highlight some records and historical performances from the athletic department's 93-year history. To do so, we introduce our newest weekly feature "The Friday Five" which highlights various top-five game, season, career, or team performances for all Eagle programs.
Teeing things off, our first "Friday Five" examines the top-five individual finishes for a Morehead State women's golfer at the Ohio Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship since the team's return to the course during the 2008-09 season.
Emma Jonsson (2011; Medalist)… Jonsson became Morehead State's first OVC Championship medalist by carding rounds of 70-73-75-218, helping to propel the Eagles to their first OVC Championship and numerous—at the time—OVC Championship records. Besting her teammate—who you'll find later on this list—by one stroke, she helped Morehead State twice set the record for lowest team round at the event by fashioning an opening round team score of 292, before crafting a 291 in the event's final round. Jonsson finished the season as the OVC's Golfer of the Year after claiming five medalist honors in 12 events during the 2010-11 season.
Marisa Kamelgarn (2012; Co-Medalist)… Coming off two previous top-five finishes at the OVC Championship, Kamelgarn followed Jonsson's lead in 2011-12, giving Morehead State its second OVC medalist in as many seasons. She fired rounds of 72-73-77-222 to share medalist honors with Jacksonville State's Ornella Arrizon while leading the Eagles to a runner-up finish at the event. With three victories on the season, Kamelgarn secured Morehead State back-to-back OVC Golfer of the Year titles through the 2011-12 season.
Paige Lausier (2011; Runner-up)… As mentioned above, Jonsson finished one-stroke ahead of her teammate in capturing medalist honors at the 2011 OVC Championship, as Lausier finished as the runner-up after marking in scores of 72-78-69-219. In a tournament-best team final round, Lausier set the standard for an Eagle golfer at the OVC Championship, firing a program-record while tying a then tournament-record with a final round 69. She finished the 2010-11 campaign with a team-leading six top-five placements.
Marisa Kamelgarn (2011; 4th)… Before earning co-medalist honors at the 2012 OVC Championship, Kamelgarn secured her second career top-five finish at the OVC Championships after fashioning rounds of 72-80-83-225. She wrapped up Morehead State's trio of top-five finishers at the event, helping the program to its first OVC Championship and numerous then OVC Championship records. Kamelgarn completed the 2010-11 season with four top-five finishes, including a victory at the MSU-EKU-Marshall Tri-Match to open the schedule.
Anna Appert Lund (2013; 4th)… In her lone appearance at the OVC Championship, Appert Lund put forth the best placement by a Morehead State freshman at the event in program history, placing fourth in 2013. She used rounds of 77-77-73-227 to end her freshman campaign with an OVC-best 75.6 stroke average, a mark which led her to be named the conference's Player and Freshman of the Year. Appert Lund finished the 2012-13 season with four top-five finishes, including co-medalist honors at the High Point Classic.
Anna Magnusson (2015; 221)… In the first OVC Championship to be played at Hampton Cove in Owens Cross Roads, Ala., Magnusson secured Morehead State's best individual finish at the course, posting scores of 74-71-76-221 en route to a fourth-place finish. The finish propelled her to OVC Golfer of the Year honors—the fourth winner of the award for the Eagles in a five-year span—after leading the league with a stroke average of 75.6. Magnusson finished her sophomore campaign with four top-five finishes.
