With the 2020 fall sports season canceled by the COVID-19 outbreak, we at Fordham have decided to dig back through our archives and provide our fans with content on some of the outstanding teams and student-athletes who have graced Rose Hill over the years

September 1, 1996 – In one of the all-time best single game performances in program history, Danielle Tanzi scored five times, as the women's soccer team routed the Iona Gaels, 12-0, at the Seton Hall Tournament in South Orange, N.J.

The five goals for Tanzi as well as the 12 overall team goals were the most by Fordham since turning varsity in 1993.

After the scoring started early in the third minute with a goal by Fordham's Antoinette Drahaus, Tanzi scored in the 11th minute on a breakaway to make it a 2-0 score.

The barrage of goals for the Rams continued with two more goals in the span of two minutes.  In the 24th minute, Jen Driscoll sent Christine Geres on a breakaway goal for a 3-0 lead, followed by a goal by Denise Corrado in the 26th minute to make it, 4-0.

The Rams scored five more times before the end of the half to lead by a 9-0 score.  Tanzi had four of those markers to finish the day with five goals, becoming the first Ram (woman or man) to have a five-goal game.  The final tally of the half belonged to Colleen Sullivan off a pass from Corrado.

Fordham got three more goals in the second half from Sullivan, Amanda Olsen, and Mary Jo Maye to complete the record-setting performance.

Tanzi would earn Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors just two days later and finished the year with 10 goals and four assists and a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team.

1998 Fordham Women's Soccer Team
September 1, 1998 – The season opener in 1998 proved to be a special one for the Fordham women's soccer team, as the Rams shut out the St. John's Red Storm, 2-0.

It was a first win for the Rams over the Red Storm in five tries since becoming a varsity sport in 1993.

The Rams jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute on a brilliant play by midfielder Meghan Rogers, who stole a clearance attempt by St. John's Lisa Rinaldi and scored from 20 yards out.

The score remained that way until the final minute of action when Fordham sealed the win with its second marker of the contest.  This time, Christine Geres put in a cross, finding Anne Bianco for a shot from 15 yards to the bottom right corner of the goal and a 2-0 lead.

That score held up as the Rams' goalkeeping duo of Erin Schmitt and Kim Kasper each played a half for the combined shutout.  Schmitt had three saves in the first half, followed by two from Kasper in the second half.
