It’s a beautiful day. Get outside, stay safe, and enjoy your weekend.
• The 2020 NBA Draft is in less than two weeks, and predicting anything remains just as hard to do as ever. Rumors continue to swirl around a number of teams and prospects, with absolutely no consensus on the top-3 pick. Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman recently reported that some sources now believe the Minnesota Timberwolves could grab James Wiseman at No. 1, while the Golden State Warriors contemplate LaMelo Ball. At this point, it really feels like both teams have been connected to damn near every prospect – let alone a possible trade down the draft board. For some weird reason, the closest thing we seem to have to a consensus at the moment is the Chicago Bulls interest in Deni Avdija. Most mock drafts have Arturas Karnisovas selecting the Israeli hooper at No. 4, but we can’t forget that there has also been plenty of talk about the organization’s possible interest in a point guard.
• I tend to believe the Bulls will go with Avdija, mostly because Killian Hayes or Tyrese Haliburton at No. 4 feels like a bit of a stretch. With that said, what happens if the No. 1-ranked point guard is still on the board? I can’t deny that the team would have to at least think about LaMelo Ball if he remains available. The guy does have a potentially elite skill set at a position the Bulls have looked to fill for years on end. However, I have to wonder, what does it tell us if the top-3 teams ultimately pass on a player that many have perceived to be a top-3 talent (of this draft class) for quite some time? Could it tell us the hype isn’t real? I guess what I’m saying is … if the Bulls passed on Ball, I don’t think we should be that surprised. Falling out of the top-3 could tell us that multiple organizations saw several red flags.

• The headline shared in the post below is probably obvious, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still super reassuring. The Bulls have arguably never had a head coach quite like Billy Donovan. His hiring not only signifies a new Bull era, but also the understanding of a modern NBA. Today’s players hold more power than ever before. The organizations that choose not to embrace that are typically the teams that struggle most. NBA head coaches need to have an even playing field with their talent and create an atmosphere founded on mutual respect. Donovan’s has been criticized at times for the freedom he gives players, but it’s hard to contest that when success has found him everywhere he’s gone. The method to his madness works, and it arguably works more today than ever before.

• The beginning of an absolutely iconic career. As the GOAT said: “Whenever they speak Michael Jordan, they should speak Scottie Pippen.”
📅 On this day in 1987, Scottie Pippen scored 10 points in his NBA debut with the @chicagobulls.
A 10-time All-Defensive selection, Pippen is one of eight players in NBA history to record at least three 200-steal seasons. He is the only non-guard to do so. pic.twitter.com/aqvjOTUjEM
