About the Class of 2025 Signing Class

Haley Campain

A native of Ann Arbor, Mich., Campain will join the University of Minnesota after competing with the Huron Rowing Association. Campain also gained valuable experience as a participant with the USRowing Midwest/Central Olympic Development Program. Campain's brother is a member of men's rowing program at Cornell.

Campain on signing with the Gophers…
"I chose Minnesota Rowing because of the amazing sense of family and hard work I saw in the team and the many opportunities the community will offer me."

Coach Strodel on Campaign…
"Haley's unrecognized potential has our staff very excited. She is a powerful athlete and we believe that on our training program she'll take off. She has a great rapport with the coaches and we look forward to supporting her in pursuit of her goals both on and off the water."

Cecilie Christensen

A native of Frederiksberg, Denmark, Christensen has competed for the Danish Students Rowing Club for five years and represented Denmark at the 2018 World Rowing Junior Championships. Christensen is two-time Nordic champion and a one-time Baltic champion while also winning a Danish championship in swimming.

Christensen on signing with the Gophers…
"Only when you challenge yourself, you can become your best self. This is why I chose Minnesota. I believe that I will be challenged in the right ways which will lead me to grow. This is what I am most excited for. Go Gophers!"

Coach Strodel on Christensen…
"Cecilie has the length, power and international racing experience that can have an immediate impact on our program. She is a quiet worker that is becoming more confident and consistent in her training. We are thrilled she is calling Minnesota home for the next four years."

Brooke Ruszkiewicz

A native of Middleton, Wis., Ruszkiewicz will join the Gophers after competing with the Camp Randall Rowing Club and the Mendota Rowing Club. After retiring from competitive ice hockey in 2018, Ruszkiewicz took up rowing and Nordic skiing and Olympic weightlifting– quickly excelling in all three sports. A member of the National Honor Society, Ruszkiewicz is a three-time Academic Honor Roll selection with a 4.0 grade point average.

Ruszkiewicz on signing with the Gophers…
"The facilities and academics at Minnesota are incredible; however, the highlight and reason I chose Minnesota Rowing is definitely the people. Each and every conversation I've had with my future teammates and coaches has been filled with authenticity, laughter, and excitement for what's to come. This team has big goals and the mindset to reach them, so I am very excited for this opportunity to represent Minnesota and my future teammates on the journey ahead."

Coach Strodel on Ruszkiewicz…
"Brooke is a racer who loves to train and compete. After hearing her club coach's recommendation, we knew that Brooke's sunny disposition, nothing-to-lose attitude, and physiology would compliment the culture we're building here."

Ella Saunders

A native of North Liberty, Iowa, Saunders joins the Maroon & Gold after spending two years as a member of the Y Quad Cities Rowing Association. Saunders helped the club's A quad to a gold medal at the 2020 USRowing Youth Virtual National Championships. Saunders comes from an athletically gifted family – her father played football at Iowa, her mother golfed and swam at Luther and her sister currently plays basketball at Creighton.

Saunders on signing with the Gophers…
"I chose the University of Minnesota because of the amazing academic opportunities, athletic tradition, and dedication of the coaching staff.  I am so humbled to be a part of the future of this program."

Coach Strodel on Saunders…
"Ella reigns from one of the top clubs in the country. She is well coached and from the time we began recruiting her has been making steady gains on the water and on the erg. Her commitment to her craft is outstanding! We are excited for her (and her family) to join our family."

Wren Wodek

A native of Traverse City, Mich., Wodek will join the Maroon & Gold as a coxswain after competing with the Lake Leelanau Rowing Club. Wodek also gained valuable experience as a participant with the USRowing Midwest/Central Olympic Development Program.
