ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The freshman-senior duo of Hunter Dickinson and Isaiah Livers led the University of Michigan men's basketball team to a decisive 84-65 win over Ball State in a mid-week contest Wednesday night (Dec. 2) at Crisler Center.

Livers posted his second straight 20-plus-point performance and sixth of his career with 21 points, while Dickinson notched his first collegiate double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Franz Wagner was huge for the Wolverines on both ends of the floor, scoring 14 points, adding six rebounds and finishing the game at plus-27 when he was on the floor.

Graduate student Mike Smith scored 10 points and dished out three assists, while Eli Brooks had seven points, three rebounds and three assists for Michigan (3-0).

As a team, U-M shot 55.9 percent (33-for-59) from the floor and out-rebounded Ball State, 41-26, with nine offensive boards.

Ball State (0-2) scored first, but it was Michigan that went on the first run of the game to go up, 11-2, on 4-for-4 shooting from the floor in the first five minutes.

Coming out of the under 12-minute media timeout, Michigan continued on a 12-2 scoring run and put Ball State on ice offensively to extend it lead to 23-8.

In a half that was defined by runs, Michigan scored seven straight points in 1:01 to extend its lead to 20 before Ball State went on an 8-0 run of its own to pull within 12 of Michigan, 34-22, with 4:02 left in the first half.

The Cardinals battled their way back to a seven-point deficit in the closing minutes of the first half, forcing Michigan to call a timeout with 30 seconds left. U-M kept Ball State off the scoreboard in the final half-minute to take a 40-33 lead into the halftime break.

Michigan hit six of its first seven shots in the second half to push the lead back into double-digits, 56-42, heading into the first media break.

Livers elevated his game in the second half, scoring eight points in the first 10 minutes and capping off a 9-0 Michigan run with a dunk to extend the U-M lead to 71-48.

The Cardinals could not come back from the deficit as Michigan earned the victory.

The Wolverines will continue their home stretch Sunday (Dec. 6) when they welcome Central Florida to Crisler Center. Opening tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m., and the contest will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
