While out Christmas shopping over the weekend you might’ve missed out on some the latest recruiting news surrounding your Ohio State Buckeyes. Don’t worry! Land-Grant Holy Land is here to help you get caught back up with things.
Michigan DB visit OSU
Jim Harbaugh’s Wolverines might not have made it to Columbus this weekend, but one of their legacy recruits certainly did. Visiting the Ohio State University on Saturday, five-star class of 2022 cornerback Will Johnson and his father, former UM defensive back Deon Johnson, took time out of their schedules to get more familiar with the area.
Unable to meet up with Ryan Day and the rest of the Ohio State coaching staff due to NCAA recruiting rules, the Johnson’s took the day to walk around the Capital City and see what it would be like to be a Buckeye off of the football field for themselves.
Considered the No. 4 cornerback and eighth overall prospect in the class of 2022, per the 247Sports Composite, Johnson recently announced his top five programs. Trimming his college offer list down from well over 20 opportunities, the 6-foot-3 190-pound Grosse Point, Michigan native will suit up on the next level at either Ohio State, Michigan, Arizona State, Oklahoma, or USC.
Looked as potential first round NFL Draft pick when it’s all said and done, recruiting analyst Allen Trieu had the following to say on how Will Johnson’s game translates to the college game.
“Great size and still growing. Has length, but is also filled in and looks like a prototypical outside cornerback prospect. Good athlete who excels on the basketball court and has shown top notch ball skills on the football field. Has the size and ball tracking ability to defend bigger outside receivers. Has good technique. Smooth in his backpedal and transition. Smart as far as zone coverage. Has yet to time at an event or in track, so verified speed is one question mark right now. It is possible he will outgrow cornerback if he keeps getting taller and bigger, but at present, projects as a blue-chip boundary cornerback who will be an impact college player and have a good chance to be a higher draft choice.”
Want to see what Johnson, who lines up for the same program that produced former Buckeye Reid Fragel, Grosse Pointe South, could potentially add to the Buckeyes silver bullet defense? Check out these highlights of the standout junior in action:
