HOUSTON – Texas women's golf senior Kaitlyn Papp fired a 3-under 68 in the second round at the U.S. Women's Open on Friday to move into a tie for third place. The Longhorn is four shots back of the leader, Hinako Shibuno, heading into the weekend.
Papp, an Austin native, birdied three of her final five holes, including a chip-in from off the green on the 17th hole to move up the leaderboard. In addition to her three birdies, Papp was bogey-free on the back nine after posting two bogeys and two birdies on her opening nine holes. Her second-round 68 followed up a 71 on Thursday.
Agathe Laisne, the other Longhorn in the field this week, bounced back from a tough first round to shoot a 1-under 70 on Friday at the Champions Golf Course in Houston. Laisne made three birdies in her second round, but it was not enough to get her back above the cut line. She finished her week with a 5-over 147.
Papp is set to tee off at 11:35 a.m. CT for her third round on Saturday. NBC will have coverage all weekend at the U.S. Women's Open, beginning at 1:30 p.m. CT tomorrow.
