If you can’t see me right now (which there’s no way you can), you can’t see the massive LaVar Ball grin I have on my face getting ready for the Charlotte Hornets to face the New Orleans Pelicans for the first time this season. It means we get the first meeting between the Ball Bros. LaMelo Ball and Lonzo Ball will face each other for the first time in the NBA! It’s an exciting matchup between two up-and-coming teams featuring a lot of great, young talent. Let’s take a look at the spread, some DFS analysis and where both Ball Bros stand this season.
Hornets vs. Pelicans, 7:30 p.m. ET ESPN
Spread: Pelicans -7
Over/Under: 217.5
ML: Pelicans (-275), Hornets (+225)
Both teams are somewhat struggling heading into this matchup. The Hornets picked up a win over the Hawks on Wednesday night. Before that, they had lost three in a row. The Pels are trying to end a mini two-game skid with a win against a weaker opponent at home. The point total is low because the Pelicans have made an emphasis on defense and the Hornets have a penchant for poor offense. Perhaps with the Ball Bros. narrative we get a bit more of that tonight.
Ball Bros. Player Props
Both brothers have their point total set at 12.5 with LaMelo at -105 and Lonzo at -124. Perhaps Lonzo’s line is a bit higher given the narrative and he’s a starter. LaMelo should come off the bench but he’s been playing well since starting his rookie season slow. LaMelo has scored in double figures in five straight games and has played at least 24 minutes in four straight. Lonzo has been playing insane Thibs-type of minutes under old school coach Stan Van Gundy. It’s been over 32 minutes in six of the past seven games.
Seemingly, their Pts + Rebs + Asts prop is also the same at 23.5. I like these numbers for Lonzo given the role and minutes he’s going to get in a good matchup. LaMelo should get plenty of run against his brother and is the more talented offensive player. If you’re into narratives, then banking on a Ball vs. Ball duel tonight isn’t a bad idea.
LaMelo ($6,500) has actually eclipsed Lonzo ($6,400) in price on DraftKings. The rookie guard has posted at least 30 DKFP in five straight games. Lonzo has been a bit more inconsistent but you’ve got to think he’ll want to stick it to his younger brother in their first game against each other. It’s a massive 10-game slate, so there are a lot of options to choose from. I’m also a sucker for narratives, meaning I’d be looking at stacking both Ball Bros. in some GPP lineups.
