NBA odds 2021: LaMelo Ball, Tyrese Haliburton improve stock to win Rookie of the Year award - DraftKings Nation

In the first edition of our NBA Rookie of the Year stock watch, we saw the first and second overall picks in Anthony Edwards and James Wiseman get off to hot starts. But on the other end of the spectrum, we saw Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball struggle in the first two games of season, averaging 6.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.

That being said, will Wiseman and Edwards hold the top spots for another week? Or will Ball or another rookie crash the party? Let’s break it down below!

Stock Up

LaMelo Ball, Charlotte Hornets (+400)

After a quiet start to the regular season for the rookie point guard, where his ROY odds fell to +600. Ball has seen odds going up after an impressive last three games. The third overall pick averaged 16.7 points, 5.3 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.3 steals in 28.9 minutes per game.

Additionally, the young point guard’s shooting splits have improved too. Through six games, he is now shooting 42.1 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from three point range on 4.3 attempts per game. Ball is looking more comfortable on the court and deservedly earning more minutes.

Tyrese Haliburton, Sacramento Kings (+500)

We have a new addition to the stock watch and that is Tyrese Haliburton of the Sacramento Kings. Haliburton slid outside of the top-10 in the 2020 NBA Draft and fell into a perfect situation where he doesn’t have to start right away. The former Iowa State Cyclone is averaging 10.6 points, 4.4 assists, and 2.0 rebounds in 26.8 minutes per game. He is also shooting 52.9 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range on four attempts per game.

Stock Down

Killian Hayes, Detroit Pistons (+5000)

The 19-year-old point guard was one of the top contenders for Rookie of The Year before the season began. However, through five games, Hayes has struggled to find his footing thus far. The 6-foot-5 is averaging 4.0 points, 4.0 assists, and 1.4 rebounds in 22 minutes per game.

Just like LaMelo Ball to start the season, Hayes’ shooting splits have not looked pretty. Hayes is shooting 23.5 percent from the field and 20 percent from three-point range on three attempts per game.

Isaac Okoro, Cleveland Cavaliers (+3300)

Okoro has only played in two games this season for the Cavs as he’s day-to-day with a foot injury. In those games, he’s only averaging 5.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 37.5 minutes per game. Cavs fans hope that when the former Auburn standout returns to the court, he can help out the dynamic backcourt of Collin Sexton and Darius Garland.
