NextGen Stats Reveals Russell Wilson's Five Least Probable Completions Of The Season

Russell Wilson began the 2020 season on a scorching hot pace and ended it with a career-high 40 touchdown passes. The nine-year veteran also amassed 4,212 passing yards, just seven off his career-high set in 2016.

Throughout the year, Russ made a number of seemingly impossible throws that ended up in his receivers' hands. On Tuesday, NextGen Stats revealed Wilson's five least probable completions from the regular season. Here are the full rankings, from five to one:

5. 52-yard pass to DK Metcalf vs. Eagles (20% completion probability)

This completion has it all. First, Wilson was pressured by Pro Bowl DE Brandon Graham and was shoved to the ground just after releasing the pass. Then, you've got Metcalf in single coverage against Pro Bowl CB Darius Slay. This could've been a play of the year candidate if DK got into the end zone, rather than being tackled at the 1-yard line.

4. 47-yard touchdown to Tyler Lockett vs. Cardinals (18.6% completion probability)

Wilson had a clean pocket on this play. The thing that made the completion improbable was the double coverage deep down the right side with two Pro Bowlers in Budda Baker and Patrick Peterson chasing Lockett. And if the diving catch while streaking into the end zone wasn't enough, Peterson got ahold of Lockett's facemask as he completed the catch and no flag was thrown.

3. 55-yard touchdown to David Moore vs. Bills (17.8 completion probability)

On this play, Russ escapes a heap of pressure and scrambles to his right before heaving the ball while on the run. Waiting for it in the end zone was a wide open Moore, who got behind the Buffalo defense. The 55-yard bomb while scrambling was what made this completion so unlikely.

2. Negative-6-yard pass to Carlos Hyde vs. Giants (17.5 completion probability)

Losing six yards isn't exactly the goal when completing a pass, but this completion was still insanely impressive. Russ faced pressure from everywhere and was wrapped up by the defense as he released this lob pass to his left. The ball got to Hyde just before the defense could intercept it, making it the second least probable completion of Wilson's season.

1. 38-yard touchdown to David Moore vs. Patriots (6.3 completion probability)

Wilson's No. 1 improbable completion is a lot different than his next four. With just a 6.3 completion probability, this play had a bevy of factors that made it unlikely to succeed. Pressure was coming in Wilson's face as he made the deep throw down the field to his left. Then, Moore does the rest by backpedaling, making the face and somehow keeping both feet inbounds while navigating around the pylon.

Here's a look at all five of the completions:
