SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Clemson freshman outside hitter Camryn Hannah registered her second 20-kill, 20-dig performance to lead the Tigers in a five-set (21-25, 17-25, 25-23, 25-18, 15-13) comeback victory over North Carolina (8-4, 7-3 ACC) inside Syracuse’s Women’s Building on Saturday afternoon. Hannah posted a career-high 27 kills, 21 digs, three blocks and one ace.

With Saturday’s performance, Hannah became the only player in Clemson history under the rally-scoring format to record 20 kills and 20 digs on two occasions.

The last time Hannah recorded a 20 kill and 20 dig performance was on Feb. 12 at UNF. She picked up a previous career-high of 21 kills and 22 digs.

Saturday’s win over the Tar Heels was the first outside of Jervey Gym since Oct. 31, 2009, which also required five sets.

Despite Hannah’s nine-kill and 10-dig first set performance, North Carolina was able to get the best of the Tigers in a 25-21 set No. 1 win. A  7-0 run for the Tar Heels in the middle of the set in addition to scoring the final three points of game No. 2 was too much for Clemson to overcome as UNC claimed the second, 25-17, and a 2-0 lead entering the break.

In the third, it was the Tigers who were able to capture momentum as Clemson dialed up an 8-0 run early thanks to Cate Long behind the service line, who picked up three aces of her own during the stretch. The Tar Heels would cut its deficit to one, 23-22, but Clemson claimed two of the last three points to take game No. 3.

In the fourth, the Tigers got a boost from right-side hitter Solei Thomas, who posted four of her 12 kills in game No. 4. Once again, Clemson finessed an early run in the set – this one 7-1 – to help settle in before taking the set, 25-18, and forcing a decisive fifth.

In the fifth, the Tigers were able to fend off a 7-1 Tar Heel run, which gave them a 12-10 lead late in the game, but Clemson won five of the last six points of the match to complete the comeback, 15-12.

Up next, Clemson (10-6, 4-5 ACC) will return to action on Sunday in the Women’s Building to take on Syracuse (4-5, 4-5 ACC) at 12 p.m. The match is set to air on ACCNX.
