PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Seminoles.com) – Taking control midway through the fifth and final frame, No. 25 Florida State Volleyball rebounded with a big win (16-25, 25-12, 25-18, 21-25, 15-9) over North Carolina on Saturday at Fitzgerald Field House in Pittsburgh.
The Seminoles (11-5, 8-5) picked up a tough victory over the Tar Heels (10-5, 9-4), whom entered the weekend in fourth place in the competitive ACC. FSU has defeated top-tier ACC schools Notre Dame and North Carolina, both in five sets, this spring.

Florida State improves to 10-2 in the spring season, which has included the services of All-America middle blocker Taryn Knuth – who missed the fall season due to injury.
Sophomore middle blocker Emma Clothier tallied a career-best 19 kills in an impressive performance, adding three blocks, three digs and three aces while hitting .441. Four Seminoles tallied double-digit dig totals, led by redshirt sophomore Morgan Chacon’s season-high 19 digs. Redshirt senior setter Olivia Dailey recorded 44 assists and 15 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.
Knuth came up big with nine kills and hit .467, while Jasmyn Martin added 10. Jessica Nunge also recorded nine kills along with nine digs.

Florida State finished the match on a critical 6-1 scoring run. The Seminoles were down 5-3 in the fifth set and then called a timeout. Following the break, FSU won four of the next five points headlined by three straight kills from Chacon to help take a 7-6 lead.
Both teams traded points to an 8-8 tie, and that’s when the floodgates opened for FSU. A tone-setting block by Knuth and Martin gave FSU a 9-8 lead, and some critical serving from Caroline Golden led to FSU winning the next five points.
The match ended when Martin landed a kill from a tough angle cross-court, snapping FSU’s two-match skid vs. the Tar Heels.
FSU covered aplenty on Saturday, holding UNC to just a .157 hitting percentage. The Seminoles hit .248 as a team, and also out-blocked UNC 10-8 overall.
Tar Heel freshman outside hitter Kaya Merkler led the opposition with 15 kills.
Florida State returns for its final regular season week of the year at home on Thursday, April 1, at 5 p.m. vs. Syracuse at Tully Gym. FSU then hosts NC State on Saturday, April 3, at 1 p.m. in its regular-season finale.
