Apple Inc. announced Monday that it plans to add 20,000 jobs in the US over the next five years as part of a plan to invest more than $430 billion in the US.
“At this moment of recovery and rebuilding, Apple is doubling down on our commitment to US innovation and manufacturing with a generational investment reaching communities across all 50 states,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said.
The company said it already supports more than 2.7 million jobs across the US through direct employment and spending with US suppliers and manufacturers as well as developer jobs.
Apple’s $430 billion contribution includes direct spend with suppliers, data center investments, capital expenditures and other spend such as on Apple TV+ productions.
In addition, it plans to invest more than $1 billion in North Carolina and construct a new campus and engineering hub. The investment will create at least 3,000 jobs in machine learning, artificial intelligence, software engineering and other fields. The company will also create a $100 million fund to support schools and community initiatives in the Raleigh-Durham area in North Carolina and across the state.
