CANTON, N.Y. –

The Union College men's outdoor track & field team earned five first-place finishes and several new conference championship qualifiers in finishing second at the St. Lawrence University Invitational, held on Saturday afternoon at the Merrick-Pinkard Track & Field Complex.

Union finished the day with 137 points, earning second place behind host St. Lawrence (229 points). Plattsburgh State University finished well back in third place with 35 points, followed by Castleton University (30 points) and SUNY Potsdam (10 points).

Junior Andrew Fox led a strong group of Dutchmen in the 200-meter dash, winning the event with a time of 22.62 seconds. He qualified for the Liberty League Championships along with first-year Ryan Hilliard, who placed third in 23.18 seconds, while fellow first-year Joey Korongy took fourth place and missed out on conference qualification by one-hundredth of a second with a time of 23.31 seconds.

Union posted three of the top-four times in the 5,000 meters, led by first-year Mark D'Alessandro in second place with a time of 16:58.32.

Union also swept the two relay events, finishing first in both the 4x100 and 4x400 events. The quartet of Korongy, Hilliard, Fox and senior Will Sirmon IV finished the 4x100 in 43.78 seconds, about a quarter of a second off of regional-qualifying time, while the foursome of Hilliard, Korongy, Fox and sophomore Aiden Rowley won the 4x400 in 3:39.66.

Senior Dante Scott posted a pair of top-two finishes for Union, winning the triple jump with a distance of 13.20 meters (43-3.75) on his last attempt and also placing second in the long jump with a top leap of 6.30 meters (20-8). Hilliard took second in the triple jump as well, earning a spot in the conference championship with a top leap of 12.69 meters (41-7.75), while Fox's long jump mark of 6.05 meters (19-10.25) was good enough to earn him a spot in Liberty Leagues as well.

Senior Ryan Ehrets earned Union's last conference qualifier of the day with a 36.32-meter (119-2) hammer throw, which placed him fourth. Ehrets also took second place in the shot put with a mark of 12.07 meters (39-7.25), while first-year Chris Tsouvalas picked up Union's last win with a javelin throw of 35.35 meters (116-0).
