NORMAN – Five members of the Oklahoma men's golf team were named to the Division I PING All-Central Region Team, it was announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Saturday.

Jonathan Brightwell, Quade Cummins, Logan McAllister, Garett Reband and Patrick Welch combined to play 89 percent of Oklahoma's 170 rounds this season, leading the top-ranked Sooners to the No. 1 overall seed entering the postseason.

The Sooners, who are competing this week at the NCAA Championship in Scottsdale, Ariz., have had one of the top seasons in program history, notching four team wins and the fourth-lowest scoring average all-time in Norman of 283.84.

It's Cummins' fourth-straight regional honor as the redshirt senior is a three-time All-American. With the All-Region selection, the Weatherford, Okla., product will have the opportunity to become the first four-time All-American in Oklahoma men's golf's storied history.

Reband's selection is the third of his career, and the redshirt senior has followed the previous two All-Region honors with All-American selections. The Sooners' top-ranked player has amassed eight top-five finishes and owns the school record for career scoring average.

Welch joins Reband with the third All-Region selection of his career, becoming the only player of the Ryan Hybl-era to open his career to earn the accolade in their freshman, sophomore and junior seasons.

It's the first All-Central Region selection for Brightwell but the second selection of his career after being named to the All-East Region team last season while competing at UNC-Greensboro. The 2020 second-team All-American has five top-10 finishes in his previous seven tournaments and finished as runner-up at the NCAA Albuquerque Regional.

For McAllister, the selection notches the first of his career. The junior, who has started all 11 tournaments for the Sooners this season, jumped into the top 40 of Golfweek's national rankings and added a win and two runner-up placements this year.

The Sooners were the only team in the central region to place five on the All-Region team, and Oklahoma's five selections are second-most in the country behind Pepperdine's seven.

Oklahoma will continue play in the NCAA Championship on Sunday, May 30. Hybl's team opened the championship with an even-par 280 on Friday to grab a share of fourth.
