Hastings plays small ball in victory over Waverly - KSNB Local 4

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Small ball was the key to Hastings Five Points Bank Chiefs victory over Waverly on Saturday afternoon.

It began in the first inning, when Caleb Coslor singled up the middle to put a runner on for the Chiefs. After a sacrifice bunt moved him to second base, Luke Brooks then moved him over with a groundout.

Justin Musgrave would bring Coslor home, after grounding a ball to the third baseman. The fielder then threw the ball too high to first, allowing Musgrave to be safe, and Coslor to score making it a 1-0 game.

On the mound, Trayton Newman dominated over five innings, striking out four and only allowing two hits.

The Chiefs would go on to win, 2-0. They’ll take on Cheyenne tomorrow at 10 am, before hosting Grand Island at 12:30 pm.
