One young, lucky fan will head home from the PGA Championship with a souvenir from what will almost certainly be the shot of the tournament.
Phil Mickelson, after sinking an incredible bunker chip-in on the par-3 fifth on Sunday at the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island in South Carolina, gave his ball to a young fan in a wheelchair.
That fan, of course, was ecstatic.
Phil’s wild bunker chip-in
After a rollercoaster of a start at the PGA Championship on Sunday, Mickelson pushed his tee shot on No. 5 into the greenside bunker — which opened the door back up for Brooks Koepka to tie him at the top yet again.
Mickelson, though, wasn’t fazed one bit.
Both his chip and Verne Lundquist’s call on the CBS broadcast were spot on — which sent the gallery into a frenzy the golf world hasn't seen in quite some time.
That birdie gave Mickelson a two-shot lead in his quest to become the oldest to ever win a major championship.
Though Lefty's attention is now elsewhere, given the historic nature of his round on Sunday, that moment is one the young fan will likely never forget.
