Baker, Sebby Headline Ball State's All-Conference Baseball Honors - BallStateSports.com

After a successful 38-18 season, the Ball State baseball team placed six players on the all-conference teams that were announced after the season. John Baker was a first team all-league pick for the second time and Chase Sebby was voted MAC Defensive Player of the Year for a second time. Baker and Sebby were also on the league's all-defensive team.

Baker, one of the most accomplished pitchers in college baseball, was the Friday ace for Ball State. He went 9-3 with four saves and was fourth in the conference in league play with a 2.41 ERA. He finished his excellent career as a three-time All-MAC player (2nd team in 2018 and 1st team in 2019 and 2021) with 27 wins, a 3.00 ERA and 404 strikeouts.

Sebby captured the conference's defensive player of the year award for the second time in a row, directing the Cardinals from behind the plate. He had a .996 fielding percentage and threw out 18 baserunners. With Sebby primarily keeping an eye on the basepaths, the Cardinals allowed just 38 stolen bases. In contrast, Ball State stole 59 bases on offense. He was also the DPOY in 2019.

Ryan Peltier, Nick Powell, Noah Navarro and Chayce McDermott all earned second team all-league honors. Peltier was among the best third baseman in the league at the plate, hitting .275 with 15 extra-base hits and 38 RBIs. He also scored 33 runs and stole nine bases. Powell was the team's breakout player, standing among the league leaders in several offensive categories. He led the team in average (.351), runs (45), hits (65), extra-base hits (21), total bases (98), slugging (.530) and on-base percentage (.450). His .377 batting average in conference play was fourth among all players and first among outfielders.

McDermott, in his only complete season for BSU, enjoyed a dominant season that displayed why he's expected to go early in this summer's MLB Draft. McDermott went 8-2 with a 3.05 ERA and finished the regular season fifth in the nation with 125 strikeouts. Batters hit just .207 off McDermott, who had five starts with double-digit strikeouts. He had 13 strikeouts against Toledo and Ohio and 12 against Northern Illinois.

Navarro was among the league leaders in hitting while playing a solid second base for the Cardinals. He hit .341 with a .439 on-base mark in conference play, both numbers ranking him 10th in the conference. He was eighth in the conference in total bases and fifth in slugging. Navarro finished his career as a .317 hitter with 37 extra-base hits in 94 starts.
