Five Lions Honored by WCC - Loyola Marymount University Athletics

2021 All-WCC Baseball Teams Release
 
LOS ANGELES – Relief ace Holden Christian led a group of five Loyola Marymount University Lions baseball players who earned All-West Coast Conference honors, it was announced on Wednesday.
 
Christian was named to the All-WCC First Team while right-handed pitcher Josh Agnew and outfielder's Julian Bury and Kenny Oyama were tabbed by the coaches for Second Team recognition. Catcher Alec Cargin was selected as a WCC Honorable Mention.
 
All five individual conference awards – along with the All-WCC First, Second and Freshman Teams – were voted on solely by the league's 10 head coaches.
 
Christian put together an impressive 2021 season, leading the Lions in ERA at 0.97, strikeouts with 56, and opposing team batting average at .124 in 37.0 innings pitched. He made 21 appearances, all in relief, and had four saves on the year which was second on the team and tied for seventh in the conference.
 
Agnew, a member of the All-WCC Preseason Team, was a big presence on the mound for the Lions throughout the season. He produced a year that led the Lions in wins with six, which was sixth best in the conference, and his ERA of 3.06 was second best on the team and sixth in the WCC in 53.0 innings pitched.
 
Bury started 47 games in his lone season with the Lions and was the team-leader in batting average at .337, which was eighth best in the conference, and hits with 63 that was third overall in the WCC. He was also in the top five on the team in slugging percentage, on base percentage, runs, RBI, doubles, home runs, and total bases.
 
Oyama had a banner 2021 season, batting .330 which was second best on the team and 13th in the conference and posted an on base percentage of .412 that led the Lions and was 11th best in the WCC. His team-leading 15 doubles was sixth best in the WCC and his 16 stolen bases paced the Lions and was third best in the conference. He finished the year in the top five on the Lions in runs, hits, RBI, and total bases.
 
Cargin started in all 49 games in his lone season for the Lions and was the team-leader in slugging percentage, runs, RBIs, home runs, total bases, and games started. In WCC play he batted .278 while collecting 27 hits, 16 runs, six doubles, three home runs, and 15 RBI.
