Five Youngstown State baseball players have been named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team for the 2021 season, the conference office announced on Tuesday. The teams were voted on by the conference's faculty athletics representatives.

The five Penguins on the team are seniors Nick Caruso and Collin Floyd and juniors Phillip Glasser, Padraig O'Shaughnessy and Jon Snyder. YSU had the most selections in the league and no other team had more than two honorees. The five selections match a program record; the Penguins also had five players recognized in 2005, 2010 and 2020.

Caruso batted .310 and slugged .472 with 10 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 31 RBIs in 2021. He also posted a .989 fielding percentage with just four errors in 380 chances in the field. He was named Horizon League Batter of the Week on April 20. The Sterling Heights, Mich., native is one of 12 players in a program history to be a two-time member of the Horizon League All-Academic Team. Caruso also earned all-academic honors in 2020. Caruso has graduated with his bachelor's degree in communication studies. He owns a 3.77 GPA as a graduate student studying professional communications.

Floyd was named First-Team All-Horizon League and Horizon League Pitcher of the Year after having one of the best seasons by a pitcher in school history. He finished the campaign with a 9-4 record, a 2.58 ERA and 108 strikeouts over 101.1 innings in 15 starts. The Akron, Ohio, native tied school records with nine wins and 15 starts and his 2.58 ERA was the lowest by a Penguin since Dave Dravecky had a 2.21 ERA over 61 innings in 1977. Floyd set a new single-season school record with 101.1 innings pitched, and his 108 strikeouts are the second-most in a season in school history. He is just the third player in program history to record at least 100 strikeouts in a season. Floyd is one of 12 players in a program history to be a two-time member of the Horizon League All-Academic Team. He also earned all-academic honors in 2020. Floyd has graduated with his bachelor's degree in marketing management and his master's degree in digital marketing. He owned a 3.46 GPA as a graduate student.

Glasser, who was named Second-Team All-Horizon League, batted .321 and slugged .497 with 12 doubles, three triples, five home runs, 28 RBIs, 33 walks and 23 stolen bases. He also recorded a .981 fielding percentage with just four errors in 207 chances at shortstop. The Tallmadge, Ohio, native was selected as one of 30 semifinalists for the Brooks Wallace Award, which honors the nation's top shortstop. Glasser is one of 12 players in a program history to be a two-time member of the Horizon League All-Academic Team. He also earned all-academic honors in 2020. Glasser currently boasts a 3.96 GPA as a business economics major.

O'Shaughnessy earns all-academic recognition for the first time in his career. He batted .268 and slugged .409 with three doubles, five home runs and 25 RBIs in 2021. He also recorded 18 walks, 17 runs scored and three stolen bases. The Poland, Ohio, native holds a 4.00 GPA as a business finance major.

Snyder, who was named Second-Team All-Horizon League, finished the season with a 6-2 record, a 2.76 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 71.2 innings over 15 appearances and 14 starts. His 88 strikeouts are tied for the sixth-most in a season in program history. The Springboro, Ohio native also posted 11.05 strikeouts per nine innings, which ranks as the sixth-highest mark in program history. Snyder is one of 12 players in a program history to be a two-time member of the Horizon League All-Academic Team. He also earned all-academic honors in 2020. Snyder owns a 3.85 GPA and recently graduated with his bachelor's degree in exercise science.
