Five new COVID-19 cases reported in Jefferson County - Port Townsend Leader

Five new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported Wednesday in Jefferson County.

The number of people hospitalized due to the disease also climbed in the most recent COVID-19 update, from 35 to 37.

The five new infections pushed the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Jefferson County above the 500 mark — to 502.

Jefferson County Public Health does not provide information on individual cases, but a review of updated case reports — compared to previous case information — indicate three new cases were in the mid-county area and the other two were discovered in Port Townsend.

Three confirmed tests were found in males, and the other two were females.

By age group, one infection was found in a resident in their 20s; two in their 30s; one in their 40s; and one in their 70s.

Test results are pending for 22 residents.

A total of 28 residents were still in isolation July 28 due to potential COVID-19 contact.

There have been 26,781 tests for COVID-19 in Jefferson County since the start of the pandemic, and 26,257 have resulted in negative results.

In Jefferson County, 449 people have recovered from COVID-19. People are considered "recovered" at 28 days from the onset of symptoms if they are alive and not hospitalized, according to the state Department of Health.

Four deaths of Jefferson County residents have been linked to COVID-19.
