One of the top-rated players in the Class of 2022 is going to make one program's recruiting class much stronger when he makes his college commitment live at 6:30 p.m. ET on Saturday on CBS Sports HQ. Five-star defensive lineman Travis Shaw ranks as the No. 4 player in the country according to the 247Sports Composite, and his recruitment has come down to Georgia, Clemson and North Carolina. Shaw has been a star for Grimsley High School in Greensboro, North Carolina, and the current 247Sports Crystal Ball projections have been trending towards this being a win for Mack Brown and the Tar Heels keeping top talent in state. But given what the addition of 6-5, 310-pound defensive lineman could mean, there's no doubt that fans of both the Bulldogs and Tigers will be tuned in hopes of a late surprise from the recruiting trail.
In addition to being a five-star prospect ranked in the top five of the Class of 2022, Shaw grades out as the nation's No. 2 defensive lineman and No. 1 player from the state of North Carolina in the 247Sports Composite.
247Sports national recruiting expert Chris Singletary wrote earlier this month that Shaw is "athletic enough to play all over the defensive line with great production" and "projects as an all-conference player with the chance of being a first round pick in the NFL Draft."
"Shaw is has excellent awareness and is able to read and react on plays that are away from him, chasing them down from the backside," Singletary noted. "He has good flexibility in his hips and he can drop his weight and turn the corner when rushing the passer. He has to continue to work on playing with a low pad level and utilizing his hands when he gets off blocks, along with adding pass rusher moves to his game."
