SIOUX FALLS, S.D.--The Augustana Men's Golf team begins its season in Bemidji, Minnesota, Monday. The Vikings are on the road to kick their season off at the Bemidji Invite.

The team was selected to finish seventh in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll that takes place annually in the conference. Senior Jacob Lee was named the Preseason Player to Watch for the Vikings as he has led the team in several categories since his arrival at Augustana. Lee led the team with the lowest stroke average for the shortened spring 2021 season with an average of 76.13 strokes per round. Lee is one of four seniors on the roster this season.
Senior Hunter Von Bergen followed closely behind Lee's average with an impressive 79.13 stroke average. Von Bergen's best tournament finish came at the UIU Spring Invite where he placed eighth. He also had a season-low stroke round of 71 strokes at the Central Missouri Mule Invitational.
Head coach Danny Sinksen added four new faces to the roster during the offseason. Will Allen, Zachary Stanz, Gavin Hibbert, and Drew Determan come to Augustana after impressive high school careers. Allen, from Harrisburg, South Dakota, joins the Vikings with a prep stroke average of 74.5, tying the Harrisburg High School record. His senior season performance earned him All-State and All-Conference honors.
Freshman Gavin Hibbert joins the roster from Watertown, South Dakota. Hibbert earned the title of team captain and finished the season with a 76.6 stroke average.
The Season
Augustana will play five tournaments in the fall season including this week's season opener.
Following the Bemidji Invite, the Vikings will head across the state to Rapid City, South Dakota, to take part in the Hardrocker Invitational on Sept. 20-21, hosted by the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
The team ends September at the UMary Invite in North Dakota. The event is hosted by the University of Mary and will be on Sept. 26-27 in Bismarck.
Augustana begins October with the MWSU Holiday Inn Express Invitational, hosted by Missouri Western on Oct. 11-12 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
The last fall tournament will be the Tiger Invitational in Hays, Kan over the course of Oct.18 and 19. Fort Hays State is the host of the Tiger Invitational.
Augustana will be returning to the course in the Spring with five events scheduled for 2022. The Augustana Invite is set to take place on April 9 and 10 at Elmwood Golf Course.
