Eastman Chemical in Indian Orchard sponsoring Bright Nights Ball - MassLive.com

SPRINGFIELD — The theme for the 2021 City of Bright Nights Ball will be “Cherry Blossoms Under the Moonlight” and Shawn Pace, site manager for Eastman Chemical Co.’s Springfield plant in Indian Orchard, will be the chair.

Eastman Chemical is the event’s sponsor.

Spirit of Springfield announced details of the 2021 City of Bright Nights Ball with a news conference Friday at MGM Springfield. The ball is set Saturday, Nov. 13, when it returns to MGM Springfield for the third time.

Bright Nights at Forest Park itself, a holiday light display, begins Nov. 21 and runs through Jan. 2, 2022.

The ball, which wasn’t hosted in 2020 due to the pandemic, is the organization’s main fundraiser. Besides Bright Nights, the ball supports events like the World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast and Springfield’s Fourth of July celebration, Star Spangled Springfield.

For information about being a sponsor of the City of Bright Nights Ball or purchasing tickets, contact the Spirit of Springfield at 413-733-3800 or staff@spiritofspringfield.org.

“We believe that supporting the Spirit of Springfield’s efforts to bring the community together in celebration, especially during these difficult times, is important. In addition to our other community contributions, we are proud to serve as sponsor of the 2021 City of Bright Nights Ball,” said Pace in a statement.

Eastman Chemical Co. is or has recently invested $25 million to upgrade and expand its production of materials used in products like sound dampening windows at the Indian Orchard plant where it has 325 employees. The plant’s main products are used in automotive glass applications such as windshields, side windows and sunroofs for weight reduction and reduced interior cabin noise, and for architectural use.

The plant was formerly known as Monsanto and later Solutia.

In Springfield, the company’s charitable efforts have focused recently on the city’s COVID-19 response.

Eastman donated $40,000 to the Indian Orchard Citizens Council establishing a relief fund for businesses hurt by the pandemic. And, Eastman and other manufacturers have helped supply personal protective equipment to Springfield.

The company also donated 1,000 lap desks so Springfield students would have a place to comfortably complete their remote learning schoolwork.

Additional support for the City of Bright Nights Ball is provided by MassMutual, which was the lead sponsor of the 2019 gala and will serve as this year’s Chairman’s Reception Sponsor. Golden Circle Sponsors include American Medical Response, Baystate Health, The Colvest Group, Comcast, Country Bank, FR Investment Group, Gleason Johndrow Landscaping, Health New England, MGM Springfield, MP CPA, New England Business Machine, Sheraton Springfield, and the Springfield Business Improvement District.

According to Spirit of Springfield, the décor at the ball and dinner will be themed with cherry blossoms. Andrew Jensen from JX2 Productions, and Dan Stezko with his team at Flowers, Flowers! Are designing the look in flowing pinks and flowers. The culinary team at MGM Springfield, led by Executive Chef Chris Smigel, will serve dinner with braised short ribs, pan seared diver scallops, seared trumpet mushroom “scallops,” and a beautiful dessert complete with a touch of cherry cotton candy.
