BAYLOR at KANSAS:
FIVE KEYS TO SATURDAY'S GAME

1. KEEP THE MO GOING:
Build on the momentum created in last Saturday's 66-7 win at home against Texas Southern, when the offense scored touchdowns on its first seven series and the defense got in the act with JT Woods' school-record 97-yard fumble return. "I can see their confidence building, particularly on offense, from our spring scrimmages to our fall camp to these past two games," Baylor head coach Dave Aranda said. "Our coaches on that side, a fair amount of them are new. Their understanding of our players and their strengths and weaknesses is growing stronger. Who's who and what's what is becoming clearer."
2. DO WHAT YOU DO: Kansas may stack the box and try to take away the run. But, through two games, the Bears lead the Big 12 and rank fifth nationally, averaging 328.5 yards per game and a healthy 7.5 per carry. They need just 157 yards to top last year's rushing total in nine games (813 yards). Make the Jayhawks prove they can stop the run. "Honestly, everybody got in our heads of how we were last year and what we could be," senior offensive guard Xavier Newman-Johnson said. "As a group, we all came together and put our heads down and just kept working."
3. WIN THE TURNOVER BATTLE: That might be hard to do against a Kansas team that has yet to turn it over. But, on the flip side, the Jayhawks have only forced one turnover on defense. Baylor hasn't turned the ball over since a fumble on its opening series against Texas State and is plus-3 for the year in turnover margin, scoring twice on Woods' returns. "What makes JT so unique is just his ability to take in a boatload of information," Aranda said, "but then he processes it so quick, and he can play fast and play like he's out there in the school yard running around, having fun. He has an ease about him."
4. KEEP THE QB IN THE POCKET: Baylor's defense brought pressure in both games, but only recorded three sacks and gave up some big chunks of yards to speedy Texas Southern QB Andrew Body. This week, the Bears face another mobile quarterback in North Texas transfer Jason Bean, who rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries in Kansas' 49-22 loss at then-No. 17 Coastal Carolina. Bean will have some designed runs, but the biggest challenge for Baylor's defense is to keep him in the pocket when he drops back to pass.
5. HANDLE THE ROAD: Winless on the road last season (0-5), the Bears opened on the road this year with a 29-20 win at Texas State. Much like that game, it won't be an intimidating crowd, but the Bears need to travel well and just take care of business. Getting off to a good start will be a big key. Kansas hung with Coastal Carolina through most of three quarters before the Chanticleers reeled off 21 unanswered points. If the Bears could jump out to an early lead, it could deflate a team that hasn't won a conference game since upsetting Texas Tech, 37-34, two years ago in Lawrence.
