Former Tallahassee commissioner Scott Maddox has been sentenced to five years in prison for taking money in exchange for his influence.
Maddox, who has previously served as Tallahassee Mayor and head of the Florida Democratic Party, faced corruption charges related to taking bribes from Uber and undercover FBI agents. He was indicted on 44 charges but pleaded guilty two years ago to only a handful of charges including wire fraud, mail fraud, and conspiracy to commit tax fraud.
Maddox's business partner, and former downtown improvement authority head, Paige Carter-Smith was sentenced to two years in prison for her role in the plot.
The sentencing was delayed while Maddox and co-defendant Paige Carter-Smith cooperated with investigators in the prosecution of local developer J.T. Burnette. Burnette's sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 28.
