Five people were shot early Sunday morning near a large party on East Colfax Avenue in Aurora, police said.
Officers encountered two victims at the scene in the 1500 block of Dayton Street, and another three victims sought treatment at a nearby hospital, police said. The shooting happened at about 12:04 a.m.
A large crowd of people, believed to be from a nearby party at 9709 East Colfax Avenue, gathered as police treated the two victims at the scene. Officers said they were investigating whether the shooting was connected to the party.
All five victims are expected to survive their injuries, Aurora police said in a press release. They identified the victims as an 18-year-old man, two 19-year-old men, a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy.
Investigators closed Dayton Street between Colfax and East 16th Avenue to allow investigations to take place. Police do not yet have a suspect, and they are asking for the public’s help in finding the shooter.
Investigators are asking anyone who has information about this case to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and are eligible for a REWARD for up to $2,000.
Sunday’s shooting in Aurora follows two recent multiple-victim shootings in the city. On Nov. 15, six Aurora Central High School students were injured in a mid-day drive-by shooting at a park near the school, and on Nov. 19, three people were shot in the parking lot of Hinkley High School.
On Wednesday, a 36-year-old former police officer shot and killed a 17-year-old boy during an exchange of gunfire in the 4900 block of Addison Way, police said.
