Men's Tennis Finishes Fall Play At MAC Indoors - Ball State University Athletics - BallStateSports.com

Final Results

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Ball State men's tennis team closed out its fall portion of its schedule today at the 2021 MAC Indoors which is hosted annually by Western Michigan.
 
The Cardinals competed against the Broncos along with Binghamton, Buffalo, Northern Illinois, and Toledo in the three-day event. The matches took place at the West Hills Athletic Club. 

"Overall a very average performance from a team standpoint this weekend," Ball State head men's tennis coach Bill Richards said. "Definitely below our expectations. We have a lot of work to do before our dual match season starts in mid January."
 
True freshmen Nathaniel Webster returned to his hometown of Kalamazoo and had a successful weekend in the flight 3 singles main draw. As did his classmate Petar Petrovic who also made it to the flight 5 singles bracket championship. 
 
Webster won his first match after a straight set (7-5, 6-4) take down over Toledo's Wojciech Szczesny. Webster then advanced to the title match after posting a three-set thriller against Northern Illinois' Victor Spolidorio, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Webster then fell in the championship to host WMU's Benjamin George. 
 
Petrovic took down his respective opponents in straight sets before losing to Toledo's Marko Galic in the finals. Abe Wojtalik rounded out the Cardinals main draw victories advancing to the finals of the flight 6 singles bracket but unfortunately lost to the Rockets Cole Shoults.
 
In doubles, Chris Adams and Vince Orlando reunited as a team in the flight 2 bracket. The duo beat Binghamton 8-3 and host WMU 8-6 in the semifinals but fell in the finals to NIU, 8-6. Herran and Wojtalik also made it to the finals in the flight 3 bracket but lost in the championship match.

All-in-all the Cardinals went 14-11 in singles matches over the course of the weekend and 5-6 in doubles play.
 
The Ball State men's tennis team will open its 2022 spring season at home on Friday, Jan. 21 against Eastern Illinois. The match is slated for a 2 p.m. ET first serve at the Muncie YMCA.
