Purdue Fort Wayne Set to Visit Ball State on Thursday - Purdue Fort Wayne Athletics

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team will visit Ball State on Thursday (Dec. 2) at 6:30 p.m. for a non-league game.

Know Your Foe
Ball State is 3-2 this year and is coming off a 73-67 win over Saint Joseph's. The Cardinals also have wins over Milwaukee and Butler and losses to Texas Tech and Stephen F. Austin. Ball State is led by Anna Clephane, who is averaging 15.0 points per contest while hitting 50 percent of her shots. Sydney Freeman is dishing out 4.0 assists per game.

The Series
Ball State has a 6-0 advantage over the Mastodons in the series history, which dates back to 2001. The 'Dons and Cardinals have split the series at each others' venues, with Ball State at 3-0 in both arenas. Purdue Fort Wayne's best outing against the Cardinals was a 53-46 contest in 2012. The most recent game, Ball State took an 83-52 win.

Shooters Shoot
Purdue Fort Wayne has the best shooting percentage in the Horizon League, recording a 45.1 clip from the floor. The Mastodons also have the second-best 3-point shooting percentage in the League at 40.2 percent. Last season, the 'Dons were last in the league in both categories.

Spectacular Shayla
Shayla Sellers has the best assist-to-turnover ratio in the Horizon League. She has dished out 13 assists while committing five turnovers in 133 total minutes. Sellers is also the league's best in 3-point shooting percentage with a scorching 53.3 percent mark. This is the 13th-best in the nation.

In a League of Their Own
Purdue Fort Wayne has three of the top 12 scorers in the Horizon League: Sylare Starks (14.8 ppg), Shayla Sellers (13.5 ppg) and Ryin Ott (13.0 ppg). Purdue Fort Wayne is the only team in the League to have three scorers in the top 12.

Perfect From the Line
Aubrey Stupp is the only player in the Horizon League with a perfect free throw percentage with at least 2.5 made free throws per game. Stupp is 10-for-10, and is one of four players in the country that meet those criteria.

Double-Double Trouble
In the Mastodons' 69-63 win over UIC, Purdue Fort Wayne got double-doubles out of Shayla Sellers and Ryin Ott. Sellers had career-highs in both points and rebounds with 23 and 11. Ott went for 14 points and 10 rebounds, the latter of which was a career-high.

3 and Oh So Nice
Maria Marchesano became the second coach in Mastodon women's basketball history to start 3-0 in their career. Kirk Kavanaugh, who coached the Mastodons from 1982-85, started his career 4-0. This opening four games included a 71-66 overtime win over Indiana Tech, where he was 32-10 as the head coach from 1980-82.

Shayla's Career Night
Shayla Sellers had her best performance as a Mastodon against UIC on November 18. She scored 23 and grabbed 11 rebounds, both career-highs, while shooting 7-of-11 (63.6 percent) from the floor, 5-of-6 (83.3 percent) from 3-point range and 4-of-4 from the fre. Sellers had only three points and three rebounds at halftime, scoring 20 points and grabbing eight boards after the intermission.

Double-Double Machine
With two-straight double-doubles against UIC and Evansville, Shayla Sellers was the first Mastodon to record two in a row since Sh'Toya Sanders in February 2020. Sellers is one of three players in the Horizon League with two double-doubles this season.

Back 2 Back!
Ryin Ott was selected as the Horizon League Freshman of the Week for the second time in as many weeks on Monday, November 22. Ott helped lead the Mastodons to a 69-63 win over UIC by registering a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Through two weeks of action, Ott averaged 15.0 points per game, more than double of any other freshman in the league. This ranked eighth in the league among all players.

Last Time Out
Riley Ott and Shayla Sellers both scored in double-figures for the Mastodons in a 68-56 loss at SIUE. Ott was 8-of-8 from the free throw line.

Coming Up
Purdue Fort Wayne will get back to Horizon League play when the Mastodons visit Northern Kentucky on Sunday, December 5.
