CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Olivia Caldwell Foundation hosted the fifth annual Butterfly Ball at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper on Saturday, Jan. 29.
“It’s really a fun fundraiser. We came up with the concept as a way to honor some things that my daughter, Olivia, really loved. She had a great love of butterflies and she loved getting dressed up, so we thought what better kind of fundraiser to have than to have an adult prom where people can get dressed up and there are butterflies everywhere,” said Olivia Caldwell Foundation Founder and CEO Katie Caldwell-Burchett.
The fundraiser event is for adults 21 years old and older, with all of the money raised going towards the foundation’s missions of pediatric cancer research, improving access to pediatric specialty care in Wyoming, and supporting families with chronically ill children.
“When they play the games, there’s spin the bottle wine pull, there’s a Plinko game with raffles, and then we’re doing professional prom photos, so everything they spend money on [at the ball] ends up contributing to our cause,” said Caldwell-Burchett.
The ball also includes a king and queen competition, where nominees raise money as their votes; one dollar is one vote. The 2022 nominees raised over $36,000 for the Olivia Caldwell Foundation. According to Caldwell-Burchett, this is the closest king and queen race they have had, and the most money the nominees have ever raised.
Voting for the next Butterfly Ball theme will be hosted by the Olivia Caldwell Foundation soon.
