Despite the loss, the Cardinals (1-4; 0-2 Mid-American Conference) were able to get some solid performances in against the Golden Flashes (3-0; 2-0 MAC) in the home opener.
Leading the way was sophomore Suki Pfister with Ball State's first 9.900 mark of the season, as she registered a career-best vault in the Cardinals' first rotation.
Ball State's student-athletes also registered three additional scores of 9.825-or-higher during the meet.
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:
Rotation 1 – Vault
- Sophomore Suki Pfister registered Ball State's top individual score so far this season with a career-best vault of 9.900 … The effort tied for first in the meet.
- Sophomore Victoria Henry was not far behind, landing a season-best vault of 9.875
- The Cardinals finished with its second-best vault score of the season at 49.025, topping Kent State's score of 48.750 on the apparatus.
- Junior Megan Teter tied for first on the bars, landing a season-best routine of 9.825
- Three other Cardinals finished above a 9.700, with sophomores Kelly Sulek and Victoria Henry each landing 9.750s and freshman Grace Sumner coming in at 9.725.
- The Cardinals also held a 48.675 to 48.625 edge over KSU on bars for the day.
- Junior Taylor Waldo led the Cardinals on beam, tying her career best performance with a first-place score of 9.850.
- Sophomore Hannah Ruthberg was right behind in second at 9.775.
- In all, the Cardinals counted five scores of 9.700-or-higher to win the event by a 48.825 to 48.525 margin.
- Unfortunately, floor is where the Cardinals struggled the most, only counting two scores above a 9.700.
- Junior Taylor Waldo led BSU for the second straight event with a 9.775.
- Senior Sandra Elsadek followed with a 9.725.
- Kent State would score a 48.975 on floor, to BSU's 48.275, to escape with the meet win.
Sophomore Hannah Ruthberg was Ball State's lone all-around gymnast, landing scores of 9.775 on both vault and beam, while finishing the day with a total score of 38.150.

"You love to see Suki come out and start having that consistency from meet to meet. I'm so excited for her, and Victoria, for stepping up and performing well, just like they have been in the practice gym. That's what we ask them to do, bring it out on the competition floor."
"I'm really excited with what I saw on beam and bars today. There were some little errors here and there, but the team stayed in it and continued to fight through. They were able to adjust where they needed to."
"We are doing a great job of focusing on ourselves, and not getting distracted by the outside. We have some things to learn from today, but that's what getting into that first home meet and getting into the middle part of the season is about. We have to learn how to stay focused and bring the same type of enthusiasm and determination from one week to the next. We can't let off the gas."
Up Next:
It will be another busy week for the Cardinals, with two meets on the schedule. The first is a Friday quad at Eastern Michigan, when also features Western Michigan and Wisconsin-Oshkosh. On Sunday, the Cardinals return home for a tri-meet to battle Central Michigan and Illinois State.
