Opening Tip:

- Sunday's game against Kent State will mark the 63rd time in program history the two schools have met with the Golden Flashes leading the all-time series, 40-22. 

- The Cardinals have won eight of their last 12 meetings against Kent State.

- In their lone meeting last year, the Golden Flashes defeated the Cardinals at the M.A.C Center by a score of 61-70 ironically on this same date Jan. 9, 2020.

- Ball State head coach Brady Sallee is familiar with the Golden Flashes, he was an assistant women's basketball coach from 1996-2002 under former legendary head coach Bob Lindsay.

- With three seconds left in overtime, redshirt junior Anna Clephane corralled a rebound of a missed free throw and deposited the ball into the net to lift the Ball State women's basketball team to an 83-82 overtime victory over Northern Illinois Wednesday night at the Convocation Center. With the win, Brady Sallee now owns a 9-1 mark when playing at Northern Illinois.

- Kent State recently fell to Akron on Wednesday 61-62 and is looking for its first Mid-American Conference victory of the season. The Golden Flashes are 0-3 in league action suffering losses against Toledo and Western Michigan as well as Akron. 

-It may be cold outside but the Cardinals tend to get hot in the month of January under ninth-year head coach Brady Sallee. Sallee owns an overall record of 48-25 (.657) in the month of January dating back to his first season in 2012-13.

Scouting Kent State:

- Kent State is just 11-18 all-time in Muncie, which includes a streak of 13 consecutive losses.

- Since Ball State 10th-year head coach Brady Sallee's arrival in 2012-13 the  Golden Flashes are 7-0 when playing in Worthen Arena.

- The Flashes' last road victory in the series came on Feb. 19, 1997 (78-66).

- Kent State is 2-4 vs. Ball State under head coach Todd Starkey.

- The Golden Flashes were projected to finish fourth overall in the preseason Mid-American Conference poll.

- The first-ever meeting between Ball State and Kent State was the 1979-80 season. The Golden Flashes won that meeting by a score of 84-59 in Ohio. Ball State has currently taking the last four meetings from Kent State.

- The Golden Flashes are led by guard Katie Shumate who is averaging  12.9 points per contest and 3.4 rebounds.

Next Game:

After today's contest, the Cardinals return to the road next week for two Mid-American Conference contests. First up Ball State travels to Eastern Michigan Wednesday for a 7 p.m. ET tipoff in the Convocation Center. BSU closes its week at Akron Saturday in James A. Rhodes Arena. That game will start at 2 p.m ET.

MAC COVID Game Policy:

The MAC  announced that due to the current rise in COVID cases and its impact on winter sport programs. If possible, games that cannot be played as scheduled will be rescheduled. If a game cannot be played and cannot be rescheduled, it will be considered a no contest. For men's and women's basketball, a team must meet a minimum threshold of seven scholarship student-athletes and one coach to play a game.
