EMU Gymnastics Heads to Ball State, Feb. 20 - EMU Eagles


MUNCIE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team comes off its 14-day break and travels to Muncie, Ind. to matchup with the Ball State University Cardinals Sunday, Feb. 20.
    Eastern (5-6-1, 1-1 MAC) hasn't competed since Feb. 6 at the George Washington Quad, where it placed third with an overall score of 195.200. Two days prior, Feb. 4, EMU competed at the Towson Quad, hitting 194.575, again placing third in the meet. Ball State (4-8-1, 0-3 MAC) welcomes the Eagles to Worthen Arena after a loss at home to Bowling Green, 191.725-193.125.

THE BEST YET: Eastern Michigan saw the best out of its vault, beam, and floor lineups, as they reached season-highs in EMU's last two meets. At the Towson Quad, Feb. 4, vault put up a score of 49.150, and followed that with a 49.050 on beam, both season-best scores. 
    Two days later, Feb. 6, at the George Washington Quad, the Eagles started the meet with a score of 48.975 on floor, the highest of the 2022 campaign thus far on the event. That total included a season-high 9.850 from senior Shannon Gregory

BEAMING: Eastern Michigan continues to impress on beam, posting a season-best 49.050 at the Towson Quad, Feb. 4. Freshman Ella Chemotti was stellar, scoring 9.925, and tying for first place in the event. Furthermore, EMU is second in the Mid-American Conference on beam, averaging 48.833. 

MAC TOP-10: Sophomore Raisa Boris is averaging 9.873 on bars, which is ninth in the Mid-American Conference in the event. Freshman Ella Chemotti leads the team on beam with an average score of 9.846, which ranks second in the conference. Furthermore, her 9.950 during the EMU Quad, Jan. 28, is the highest score in the conference on the event this season. 

RELIABLE BARS: Eastern Michigan is staying consistent this season on the uneven bars. The squad is averaging 48.725, and is tied for second in the Mid-American Conference. Additionally, the lineup has not dropped out of the top three in the MAC all season. 

LAST TIME VERSUS BALL STATE: In the most recent meeting between Eastern Michigan and Ball State, the two Mid-American Conference teams tied. At the EMU Quad, Jan. 28, both the Eagles and Cardinals totaled 195.025, tying for second place. This is the first time the Green and White have tied since Feb. 27, 2016 at Ohio State, where both teams earned 195.800. 
    In the EMU Quad, freshman Ella Chemotti tied for second all-time on beam with former Eagle Jada Rondeau, with a score of 9.950. In the same event, senior Caitlin Satler and sophomore Raisa Boris tied for second with a 9.900. The performance marked a personal-best for Boris. Additionally, the sophomore posted a career-best of 9.850 on bars, and claimed second. 

EAGLES ON ESPN3: For the fifth consecutive season, the Eagles will have their home meets broadcast on ESPN3. This season, fans will be able to watch their Eagles compete versus Northern Illinois, March 13.  Furthermore, the Mid-American Conference Championships, March 19, will also be on ESPN3, as Eastern Michigan hosts. 

ON THE HORIZON: Eastern will head south to the BGSU Triangular Saturday, Feb. Feb. 26. The host, Bowling Green State University, will welcome EMU and Western Michigan into Anderson Arena at 2 p.m.
