Gymnastics Tallies Three Event Wins Sunday vs. BGSU - BallStateSports.com

MUNCIE, Ind. - - While several key pieces were missing from the lineup Sunday, that did not stop the Ball State gymnastics team from picking up three event wins in a dual meet versus Bowling Green.
 
Even more impressive was the performance of junior Taylor Waldo who competed in the all-around for the first time in her collegiate career. Waldo finished second on the squad with a score of 38.050, including her first career vault and beam performances, as well as a career-high tying score of 9.850 to win beam.
 
"We had several individuals step up in a big way today," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "I was really impressed with Taylor Waldo's effort, as she competed in the all-around for the first time in her career. She turned in really impressive results under the circumstances and provided a huge spark for our team."

Also turning in some big results was senior Sandra Elsadek who tied for a pair of events, with a career-best 9.825 on bars and a 9.800 on floor.
 
Despite the strong effort, which saw the Cardinals earn the top scores on bars, beam and floor, the team suffered a 193.125 to 191.725 setback to visiting Falcons.
 
EVENT HIGHLLIGHTS:
Rotation 1 – Floor

  • With just five Cardinals in the vault lineup, Waldo made an immediate impact, leading off the squad with a score of 9.575 in her first career countable vault.
  • Junior Megan Teter and senior Stefanie Schweikert led Ball State on the apparatus with scores of 9.750
 
Rotation 2 – Bars
  • The Cardinals turned in the top four bars routines of the meet, with senior Sandra Elsadek and sophomore Hannah Ruthberg tying for the event win at 9.825 … Elsadek's score was a career-best.
  • Freshman Grace Sumner added a career-best score of 9.775 to tie for third with Teter.
 
Rotation 3 – Beam
  • Waldo led the way for Ball State on beam, tying her career-best score with a 9.850 for the overall event victory.
  • Elsadek was second on the day at 9.750, while senior Lauren Volpe was third at 9.725
 
Rotation 4 – Floor
  • Floor was Ball State's best event of the day with a team score of 48.750.
  • Elsadek and Teter tied for the event win with scores of 9.800.
  • The Cardinals also counted a 9.750 from Waldo, a 9.725 from Schweikert and a 9.675 from Ruthberg.
 
All-Around
  • Ruthberg was Ball State's top scorer in the all-around, posting a 38.225 … That included the winning mark on bars (9.825) and a 9.725 on vault.
  • In her first career appearance in the all-around, Waldo finished with a score of 38.050, including career-best performances on beam (tie at 9.850), vault (9.575) and bars (8.875).
  • Rounding out Ball State's all-arounders was Elsadek with a score of 37.425 … The effort counted first-place finishes on both bars (9.825) and floor (9.800).

The Ball State gymnastics team closes the home portion of its 2022 competition schedule next Sunday with a 1 p.m. Senior Day matchup versus Eastern Michigan.
