MUNCIE, Ind. - Alex Richard (Avon, Ind./Avon), a transfer from Butler, has committed to play for the Ball State women's basketball team for the upcoming 2022-23 season.
"Alex comes to us with some great experience playing against a high level of competition," Ball State head coach Brady Sallee said. "She will be ready to impact our program as a strong and physical big in this system. Her ability to score with her back to the basket is evident and I look forward to seeing her skill set flourish as we take advantage of her athleticism and strength. Alex is a perfect fit both on and off the court."
Richard comes to Ball State after playing one year with the Bulldogs. At Butler, Richard saw action in 26 games while averaging 7.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and shot 45 percent from the field.
She started her freshman campaign on a high note after scoring 20 points against No. 8 Indiana while shooting 10-of-13 from the field in Butler's season opener.
Richard closed out her freshman year with a total of 192 points, 113 rebounds, 28 assists, 15 blocks and 11 steals.
Richard led the Bulldogs in scoring after registering 14 points against DePaul on two separate occasions. She was also just shy of a double-double after a nine-point, eight-rebound performance at Big Ten foe Illinois (12/12/21).
Richard, a consistent threat on the court both offensively and defensively, added a season high three blocked shots against the Blue Demons. She grabbed eight rebounds and nine points versus Villanova (1/28/22) and led Butler with seven rebounds against Xavier (2/20/22).
A four-year starter at Avon High School, Richard averaged 11.8 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game for the Orioles. Richard was named to the All-Hendricks County team three times during her career at Avon. Richard is a two-time Hoosier Crossroads All-Conference and First Team All-State honoree. She was also chosen by her team as a three-time captain for the Orioles.
While at Avon, she etched her name into the Orioles' all-time program record book for most rebounds in a single-game (18) and most rebounds in a single-season (218).
