Shippensburg University freshman Alicia Ball was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Softball Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon by the league office. This is the second straight week that she has earned the award.
Ball recorded three complete-game victories in the circle for the Raiders, first defeating Holy Family 10-2, and then posting two wins in PSAC East play (East Stroudsburg and Bloomsburg). She improved her season record to 8-3.
In 20 innings, Ball allowed just six hits (all singles) and four runs (two earned), walking nine and striking out 20.
On Tuesday, in a 10-2 run-rule win at Holy Family, Ball allowed two singles and two unearned runs in six innings, walking one and striking out seven.
In 14 innings against the PSAC East, Ball allowed just four hits (all singles) and just two runs, walking eight and striking out 13. On Friday, in a complete-game win at ESU, Ball allowed just three singles and one run, walking three and striking out six. On Sunday, in a complete-game win at Bloomsburg, Ball allowed just one single and one run (both in the first inning); she walked five but struck out seven in the victory.
Ball's award marks the first time that a Raider has been named the PSAC Eastern Division Pitcher of the Week in back-to-back weeks since Emily (Estep) Goshorn on March 3 and March 10, 2014.
It is the second weekly award of Ball's career including her honor last week.
